Baby Yoshis are baby versions of Yoshis appearing in a variety of different Mario games. Their best known roles were in Super Mario World, although they also appeared in New Super Mario Bros U and various Yoshi's Story games, as well as a large amount of fanon games. They commonly come in different colors, which show which abilities they have, and can grow into the correspondingly colored Yoshi through various means.
Canon Appearances[]
Super Mario World[]
In Super Mario World, baby Yoshi appear in the Star levels. Mario and Luigi can feed them five enemies to turn them into adult Yoshi.
Yoshi's Story[]
In Yoshi's Story, several baby Yoshi live on Yoshi's Island where they use their Super Happy Tree to collect fruits for their kind. Baby Bowser steals the tree, and the Yoshis team up to defeat the childish Koopa.
Yoshi's Island DS[]
In Yoshi's Island DS, a baby Yoshi appears as the seventh Star Child at the very end of the game.
New Super Mario Bros. U[]
In New Super Mario Bros. U, there are three Baby Yoshis, each of which has their own special abilities.
- A magenta-colored one, which can float up similar to the Blimp Yoshi form in Super Mario Galaxy 2
- A blue-colored one, which can spit bubbles out of its mouth
- A golden-colored one, which is similar to the Bulb Yoshi form in Super Mario Galaxy 2.
- No matter how many enemies are eaten they will not turn into a Adult Yoshi

The Bubble Baby Yoshi, Magenta Baby Yoshi, and Glowing Baby Yoshi from New Super Mario Bros. Wii U all make an appearance as items in this installment. Bubble Baby Yoshi can bubble items and briefly trap opponents, and acts on a timer similar to the Golden Mushroom. Magenta Baby Yoshi can extend aerial distance as well as raise the player into the air. Glowing Baby Yoshi allows you to have a glowing radius that can stun opponents when you hit the item button when your opponents are nearby.
