— Bramble, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!

Bananus Goldus Flutterus, more commonly known as Banana Bird, is a recurring species that makes several appearances in the Donkey Kong series beginning with their debut in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. Banana Bird is a species of avian that appear to be made out of partially-peeled bananas. They seem to be native to the Northern Kremisphere, as Baron K. Roolenstein imprisoned the members of the species during the Kremlings' invasion of this area.

All Banana Birds are the children of the Banana Queen, who rules over the species and seems to possess magical powers.

Physical Appearance[]

Owing to their name, Banana Birds appear to be living bananas with bird-like features. Their bodies resemble partially-peeled bananas, with the lower half of their bodies being encased in what appears to be a ripe banana peel. Banana Birds possess two large eyes with blood red pupils on either side of their head, which are surrounded by what appears to be pink skin, and a pointed yellow beak that protrudes from the front of their face. Breaking through the banana peel-like casing surrounding the lower portion of their bodies are two orange feet that greatly resemble those of chickens: their feet possess three pronged toes facing forwards, with another fourth toe on the back of their foot.

Game Appearances[]

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble![]

Banana Birds make their most prominent appearance in the 1996 Super Nintendo Entertainment System title Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! Prior to the events of the game, Baron K. Roolenstein and his Kremling Krew captured the Banana Birds and the Banana Queen, imprisoning them within crystals. During the game, Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong must rescue thirteen of the Banana Birds that have been hidden within secret caves, with the player needing to complete a memory game in order to free them; an additional two are owned by Barnacle and Bramble of the Brothers Bear, and can be obtained by trading them items. The Game Boy Advance remake of the game includes an addition five Banana Birds that must be collected: one hidden in the Pacifica region, one owned by Bachelor of the Brothers Bear, and three obtained by beating the minigames hosted by Funky Kong, Swanky Kong, and Cranky Kong.

Once all Banana Birds are freed, the player must visit Wrinkly Kong in order to have the Banana Birds guide them to the Banana Queen. All of the Banana Birds will then sing in order to break the magic spell placed on the wall sealing away the Banana Queen, who will then aid Dixie and her cousin by trapping the Kremling leader within a giant egg.

Donkey Konga[]

Banana Birds make a minor cameo appearance in Donkey Konga. In single-player modes Banana Birds hop around the bottom of the screen alongside a variety of other characters from the original Donkey Kong Country titles (including Diddy Kong and Ellie the Elephant), but otherwise do not directly interfere with the player in any way. They do not appear in multiplayer mode as they hop around the area that would be reserved for the second player normally.
