Golem is a turtle-like bipedal Pokémon with plated, green rocks as its shell. Golem grows bigger by shedding its skin once a year. The discarded shell immediately hardens when exposed to air, crumbling away and returning to the soil. Golem has a head protruding out of the center of the shell, short arms that have three claws, and two legs with five-clawed feet that have four claws in front and one in back. It has red eyes and a flat snout with two pointed teeth in its lower jaw. As shown in the Pocket Monsters Carddass Trading Cards Golem's shell is hollow.
The anime has shown that Golem is able to withdraw its head, arms, and legs into its shell and roll at high speeds. Golem is dangerous when doing this, as it is unable to see and may crash into or run over anything in its path. To prevent it from rolling into the homes of people downhill, grooves are dug into the sides of the mountains to divert the rolling Golem’s course. Golem’s body is so hard that even dynamite cannot scratch it. Golem is seldom seen in the wild. However, it can be found living in mountainous regions.
All canon Pokémon are available in Tropes vs. Women in Pokémon Training, including Golem; however, Golem can't be found in the wild. This game is notable for giving the Alolan version of Golem a gender difference: females have no mustache or beard in exchange for a taller "cannon". Also, in the game's Nintendo Switch remake, both forms of Golem can Mega Evolve using a Golemite. This causes regular Golem to become a Rock/Fire volcanic-based creature, but Alolan Golem's typing does not change. Regular Golem's ability changes to Inflame, which turns its Normal moves into Fire moves, while Alolan Golem's ability changes to Severe Weather, a Rain Dance variant that adds lightning.
Often confused for Gorons in Hyrule. This Pokémon moves primarily by rolling, much to the detriment of anyone who lives near a mountain. Some towns have dug ruts in mountains to try and divert a Golem stampede away from them.
This form of Golem is found inside volcanoes. Its blood is made of molten lava. It's quite volatile, and its Explosion can reduce a whole city to nothing.
Legends say that this form of Alolan Golem's anger has the ability to cause thunderstorms, and the more it's angered, the stronger the storms are.
Trivia[]
In Generation I, Golem was the only Pokémon that could not be seen without trading. However, its existence was implied by a non-player character who had just received his friend's Graveler. Venusaur (if the player started with Charmander), either Kabutops or Omastar and Magmar in Pokémon Red and Electabuzz in Pokémon Blue would also be missing, but only Golem was definite.
In the Japanese version of Pokémon Blue, this isn't true as there is an in-game trade for a Graveler.
Name origin[]
The English name is literally the word "golem", a rock/clay robot-like creature from Jewish folklore. However, it does not actually act like a golem; the Regi group and Golurk are better examples of golems in Pokémon.
