Sonic Speedball RPG IV: Speedster Mania (Sonic Speedball RPG IV: Galactic Apocalypse in everywhere but North America) is EEA Inc.'s version of Sonic Speedball RPG IV, the fourth game in the Sonic Speedball RPG Series for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS and was released in mid-2010. The Wii version is a 3D side-scrolling game and the DS version is a 3D Platformer, but with 2D sprites, therefore the gameplay is very different in both versions, however, the storyline is the same and the duologue is almost the same in both versions.
Story
Chapter 1: Destruction of the Pokémon Universe
Many years after the events of Sonic Speedball RPG III: Nega's Empire, in the world of Pokemon, the Pokemon Trainers were getting ready for the ultimate Pokemon battle championship. The championship was in one month and trainers were working hard, teaching their best Pokemon the best moves. Gold and Kotone, brand new trainers were at Professor Elm's lab, picking their first Pokemon (Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile). After picking their Pokemon, the Professor challenges them to a battle with Pokemon they did not choose. After defeating him, they were about to leave. Just then, the sky turned dark and the legendary Pokemon, Arceus loomed over them. The Professor grabbed a box of items before he, Gold, Kotone, and the three Pokemon ran out of the lab to see it crushed by the Pokemon's foot. A blast of ice energy froze Professor Elm and the two young trainers had no idea what-so-ever to do. Seeing the box that Elm risked his life to save, Gold opened it. It seemed to be a strange device that was invented by the Professor. Gold and Kotone had no choice but to press the buttons on the device. All of a sudden, Gold, Kotone, Professor Elm, and the three starter Pokemon disappeared into thin air. Before disappearing, Gold heard Arceus call out, first the world...THEN THE UNIVERSE!, before releasing a large amount of energy. The machine had travels a far distance to the Mushroom Universe. Mario finds a ? Block and hits it, releasing the entire machine, which falls on top of him. Gold, Kotone, the frozen Professor, and the three Pokemon appear beside the machine. After Mario is released, he is told about the Professor's condition and sets off to find a Fire Flower. After retrieving one, Mario melts Professor Elm's ice block with a fireball, releasing the frozen Professor. Professor Elm tells Gold and Kotone about the creation of the Pokemon world. He tells them that Arceus was the one who created the world in the first place and must be ready to end it all. Gold told the professor that he overheard Arceus say that he would also destroy the universe which possibly would have an effect on the Mushroom Universe as well.
Chapter 2: The Plan of Universal Domination
Meanwhile in the world of Mobius, Arceus had found the next world to destroy. As the world was being demolished, Silver the Hedgehog tried stop Arceus, but fails. To save himself, Silver transports himself to the Mobius past where he tells Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Blaze the bad news. Sonic knew that if he and his friends were going to be saved, he must prepare for the end. The friends went to work, telling everyone about the apocalypse. However, nobody would believe him. Sonic eventually finds his old rival, Shadow the Hedgehog. Surprisingly, Shadow believes Sonic's story and decides to travel to the future and battle Arceus. Sonic refused Shadow to risk his life again. Shadow agrees that if Sonic could beat him in a battle, that he would not go, but if he won, he would go to the future. After Sonic defeats Shadow, Shadow travels to the future anyway. Sonic bolts back to find his friends. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Blaze, and Silver all agree to travel into the future to save Shadow, since he did help them in Sonic Speedball RPG. Silver grabs Sonic and his friends and teleports to the future. The Sonic crew finds out that Arceus had summoned Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina out of the Pokemon Universe to destroy three worlds: Mobius (Dialga), the Mushroom Universe (Palkia), and the Fantendo Universe (Giratina). As Mobius was being destroyed by Dialga, Giratina attempts to eat Silver but fails and carries him into a portal, in which leads to the Fantendo Universe. Sonic dives into the portal after Giratina to save Silver and the others take the Mushroom Universe portal to find Shadow. When they get there, they find that the world is already in chaos. However, Professor Elm has teamed up with Professor E. Gadd, to build a U.F.G. (Unidentified Flying Gaddget) which it suppose to transport all the Toads into space, where they will be safe from Palkia. However, Mario, Luigi, Blue Toad, and Yellow Toad run to the castle to save Princess Peach. Tails, Knuckles, and Blaze try to stop the heroes, because the castle is where Palkia is! When the heroes get there, Palkia discovers Peach's Power and takes her, and Toadsworth up into space. Tails, Knuckles, Blaze, Mario, Luigi, and the two Toads get into the spaceship just in the nick of time, and blast off after Palkia. The giant Pokemon tries to destroy the U.F.G. by launching balls of water at it and sending meteors after them, which turns into a mini-battle. Palkia then retreats, leading the U.F.G. to run out of gas and hit a meteor after all. The heroes, E. Gadd, Elm, the trainers, and the Toads float in different directions, floating deeper and deeper into space.
Chapter 3: Elimination of the Fantendo Universe
Meanwhile, Sonic travels to the Fantendo Universe to save Silver from Giratina. He ends up in Fan City, where he is greeted by YoshiEgg Nook. Just then the ground shakes and Giratina attacks the city. YoshiEgg Nook tells Sonic that three of his friends, McBoo, PalmMan, 3.14 are missing and that Giratina must have kidnapped them. Meanwhile, McBoo, PalmMan, and 3.14 where in deed kidnapped and were in an enemy chamber, having their power drained into a giant Energy Ball. Just then, Clyde burst into the room and shut down the power. At that minute, enemy Pokemon swarmed into the room, and knocked out Clyde. McBoo, PalmMan, and 3.14 escaped with Clyde and defeated the Pokemon. Just then, they faced a wild Pikachu, it attacked them, and being weak after having their power drained, were also knocked out cold. The chamber was then set to self destruct and surprisingly the Pikachu piled the heroes on his back and saved them! The explosion got Giratina's attention, letting Silver escape from his clutches. Pikachu was able to revive the heroes, just in time for them to see Giratina creating a large ball of energy to destroy Fan City and the Fantendo Universe! Pikachu's load of weakened heroes, was to much for him and Sonic, YoshiEgg Nook, and Clyde. Pikachu was able to jump though the portal with McBoo, PalmMan, and 3.14 but YoshiEgg Nook and Clyde were to weak to even get up. Sonic tried to save them, but a large rock trapped the two heroes. Sonic tried harder and harder to lift the rock, but it was to hard. YoshiEgg Nook was just able to give Sonic a hint, no...place...but...real...wor... Before Sonic could hear the rest, Silver grabbed him and jumped into the portal as the ball of energy destroyed Fan City. Sonic, Silver, McBoo, PalmMan, and 3.14 travel back to Mobius but fall into the ocean, since all the land was destroyed but Dialga. But Dialga has not yet gone. He attacked the heroes by creating a giant whirlpool. Just then the ocean's hero, Starfy, jumped out of the water and attacked Dialga, leading into an epic battle that was even harder than Palkia. Dialga tries to attack Starfy once again, but is eaten by the Mega Snark, which tries to eat Starfy as well. Starfy has no choice, but to flee the Mega Snark to save his friends. Starfy and his friends lead the giant Shark into pit, where they trap the shark with an underwater landslide. This allows them to escape Dialga, for now. After exploring the ocean for a while, the find two survivors of Mobius, Espio the Chameleon and Mighty the Armadillo. Sonic and Silver feel that they should all stick together to find the portal into Mario's world so they can save Shadow.
Chapter 4: Reunited with New Escapees
Meanwhile, back in space, Mario, Luigi, Blue Toad, and Yellow Toad had landed on a small planet. Not knowing what to do, the four ventured out into the galaxy, and eventually found their old pal, Yoshi. The four friends and Yoshi soon found a busted up U.F.G. with E. Gadd, Elm, and several Toads with it. The Toads reported that there was no sign of Palkia or Princess Peach. Mario knew that if they could find parts for the U.F.G., that E. Gadd and Elm could fix it up and the search could continue. They also said that a Toad thought he saw Bowser in the galaxy as well as Wario and Waluigi, who were stowaways on the U.F.G. Just then, Wario and Waluigi jump out of get mad at the Mario Bros. for not helping them escape the chaos on the Mushroom Planet. After the Wario Bros. are defeated, they ask to join the Mario Bros.' party. When the Mario Bros. agree, Wario and Waluigi run off to find some parts for the U.F.G. Mario and Luigi begin a search for Tails, Knuckles, Blaze, and the two Pokemon Trainers. Meanwhile, Shadow meets up with none other than Dr. Eggman, who is looking for Arceus, so that he may tell him the locations of the Chaos Emeralds. Shadow, who thinks it is all crazy talk, warns Eggman about the power of Arceus that he doesn't know about. However, Eggman doesn't listen and ventures out by himself. Back at the ocean, Starfy says good bye to Sonic, Silver, and the rest of the group, and swims away. Out of nowhere, Mega Snark brakes out of his trap and swallows Starfy. McBoo tells Sonic, Silver, Espio, and Mighty to find the portal and save their friends, while he, PalmMan, and 3.14 save Starfy. Immediately, the three friends are eaten by Mega Snark and Sonic's friends have no choice but to swim away. Meanwhile, Starfy luckily finds out that Dialga is trapped in an area of Mega Snark's stomach. Quickly, McBoo, PalmMan, and 3.14 meet up with Starfy and find out that the only way to defeat Mega Snark to destroy his main power source, his heart. After a bit of adventuring, the group finds the heart, but they also find out that is has a mind of it's own. After a destroying the heart, the area opens up, and Dialga escapes! He destroys Mega Snark and starts storing up energy again. Luckily, the heroes find the portal to Mario's world, escaping before they were killed.
Chapter 5: The Brawl at the Pubic Arena
Sonic, Silver, Mighty, Espio, McBoo, PalmMan, 3.14, and Starfy find themselves in the ruins of the Mushroom Planet. Then Sonic remembers what YoshiEgg Nook said, no...place...but...real...wor... Just then, Sonic figured it out, it meant, nowhere safe, but the real world, meaning Earth. Sonic had been there before, but knew that the only way to get there was to use Chaos Control, which only Shadow could use. Meanwhile, back in space, Tails, Knuckles, and Blaze had landed on a strange planet that looked a lot like Earth, but a bit different. They walked for a bit and found a large arena, and entered. They found that it was a boxing tournament, Little Mac verses Toon Link. Little Mac KO's Toon Link quickly and the next opponent steps to try to beat the champion, Kirby. Just then, Tails remembers the fact the the apocalypse is coming and tries to warn everyone. At that moment, Arceus destroyed the top of the stadium. He had imprisoned Dr. Eggman after he asked about Chaos Emeralds and had forced him to create a new robot called, Metal Arceus, which turned out just as powerful as Arceus, but a bit weaker in design. Back in the ruined Fantendo Universe, Pikachu, who had failed to save himself after saving Sonic and his friends. Just then he sees Giratina coming his way. Trying to hid, Pikachu runs behind a rock to hid, but the ground caves in, and the helpless Pokemon falls down into the underground. There, he meets Lucario and many other characters that survived Giratina, by hiding underground. Lucario and Pikachu agree to return to the above world and fight Giratina as a team. Lucario's friends join the fight as well. Lucario shows Pikachu the way back to the above and the epic battle with Giratina begins. Surprising, Giratina faints and flees after a long hard battle. Pikachu and Lucario join forces and leave the Fantendo Universe in a secret portal that they have no idea what-so-ever of where it leads.
Chapter 6: The Battle of Bowser's Castle
Dazed and confused, Gold and Kotone woke up in what seemed to be the dungeon of Bowser's Castle. Their three Pokemon were with them, and they were all chained to the wall. Two of Sonic's friends, Vector the Crocodile and Charmy Bee where also hanging there. Vector told them that he and Charmy were searching for Chaos Emeralds, when Bowser kidnapped them and forced them to tell him where Sonic was so that he could find Mario, being that they worked together before. When they refused, Bowser put them in this dungeon. All of a sudden, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile were free! They had used the special moves that Gold and Kotone had tough them. Just then, Kamek, one of Bowser's minions, who was there to check on the prisoners came in. Seeing the Pokemon free, he tried catch them but failed. Soon Gold, Kotone, Vector, and Charmy were all free but Kamek was not ready to let them go without a fight. The two rookie trainers managed to defeat Kamek but Bowser was still in the way of escape. After dodging the twists and turns of Bowser's Castle, the trainers found the exit. But before they could make a break for it, they were confronted by Bowser himself. Before Bowser could attack, Palkia returned to the ruined Mushroom Planet and destroyed Bowser's Castle. This made Bowser furious! He fought Palkia like there was be tomorrow and defeated him! Bowser decided that the young trainers needed a leader and joined the party. After a little bit of exploring, the heroes (led by Bowser) meet up with Sonic, Silver, and the rest of their friends. Vector and Charmy think that it would be best to stay with Espio and Mighty because they are all members of Team Chaotix. Bowser on the other hand, had different plans. Being that he was able to save his custom made Koopa Clown Car, Bowser and McBoo, leaving the others behind, travel into space to find Mario. Back at the stadium, Metal Arceus had destroyed the stadium already but Knuckles, Tails, Blaze, Little Mac, Toon Link, and Kirby has managed to escape. As that time, a portal appeared and Lucario and Pikachu stepped out. Lucario told Pikachu to wait there as he fights Metal Arceus, but Little Mac wanted a part in the brawl as well. So, the two fighters teamed up to defeat Metal Arceus. The battle ended quickly and the giant robot fell. The normal Arceus tried to attack but was stopped when Dr. Eggman escaped from his cage and fled to the portal. The rest of the heroes did the same, but so did Arceus.
Chapter 7: Seven Chaos Emeralds Vs. 50 Rare Candies
As Bowser and McBoo got to the galaxy, they searched and searched before they found Mario and Luigi. The two duos fought each other before the Mario Bros. won. Bowser was not ready to join the Mario Bros., but McBoo persuaded Bowser to join. Mario and Luigi told Bowser and McBoo that E. Gadd and Elm, with help from Wario and Waluigi, had retrieved all the parts of the U.F.G. and where ready to go. McBoo told the bros. about Earth, which they knew about already and the four set off to find E. Gadd. Meanwhile, Wario and Waluigi had found Peach and Toadsworth after Palkia was defeated and everyone boarded the U.F.G. All of a sudden, Lucario and his crew emerged from a portal. They had manged to escape Arceus by fleeing, but not for long. Arceus also emerged from the portal! E. Gadd and Elm told the Mario Bros. to take the Toads, Peach, and the U.F.G and leave. Bowser and McBoo didn't like that idea and jumped on the U.F.G. as well. This weighed down the space ship and sent it down. The group fell down into deep space until they landed on the Comet Observatory where they met Rosalina and her Luma friends. Just then, the doctor himself, Dr. Eggman arrived on the Comet Observatory. He told them that Arceus was not yet unstoppable. He said that Arceus must be a Level 100 Pokemon before he can destroy the universe. He said to them that a lone Jigglypuff owns 50 Rare Candies that Arceus can use to power up and become Level 100. Eggman also told them that the seven Chaos Emeralds have an equal amount of power as a Level 100 Arceus, so if they could get a hold of all seven emeralds, they may have a chance to stop his. Sonic and Silver, who were with Eggman told them that they had found five of the seven emeralds already and only needed two more. Rosalina revealed that she used one to power the observatory and Eggman said that Jigglypuff had the last one. At that time, Arceus created another portal into the Pokemon world and enters. It was a race to find Jigglypuff and retrieve the last emerald before Arceus retrieves the 50 Rare Candies.
Chapter 8: Jigglypuff's Boss Championship
Sonic, Silver, Eggman, Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and McBoo arrives in what barely looked like it could have been the world the Pokemon. The landscape was totally gray and what used to be colorful care-free Pokemon were replaced by Shadow Pokemon. Eggman told them that Jigglypuff lived on the top of Mount Coronet, which Arceus is very familiar with. Eggman knew that the heroes have a very low chance of beating Arceus to the top, but that had to try. As they reared the top of Mount Coronet, they saw Arceus fly overhead. He was beating them to the top! The heroes and Arceus faced Jigglypuff, who was in his puffed up form. Using the power of the last Chaos Emerald, Jigglypuff challenged the heroes and Arceus to battle three classic villains, being brought back to live. If Arceus defeated the three enemies faster than the heroes, he would receive the 50 Rare Candies, but if the heroes won, they would get to keep the last Chaos Emeralds. As that time, Jigglypuff revived King Dedede, Ganondorf, and Ridley. Arceus went first, destroying each enemy in a short amount of time. The heroes sent out their most trained fighter and surprisingly beat Arceus' time! After receiving the last Chaos Emerald, Arceus was furious! He tried to kill Jigglypuff and stole the 50 Rare Candies! He started to charge up his energy with full power! But just as they were about to be conquered once and for all, Shadow the Hedgehog arrived just in time and used Chaos Control to save them. Back in Mario Universe, the heroes met to together to talk about how to defeat Arceus with the seven Chaos Emeralds. Jigglypuff explained that it would be easy if Arceus used only his own moves, but if he started using the powers of the universe, it would be just about impossible to defeat him.
Chapter 9: Hour of the Apocalypse
Back in the Pokemon world, Arceus had completely destroyed the world and there was nothing but space left. Arceus was unsure weather to go though with destroying the universe, being that a lot of innocent creatures would have to die. Back at the Mario universe Sonic and Silver were getting everyone ready to fight Arceus, using the power of the Chaos Emeralds. But when least expected, a enormous black hole emerged out of nowhere! The mighty Level 100 Pokemon was controlling it, and with the powers of the universe! All the heroes, including Sonic's best friends were sucked in, and Sonic was the only one left. He held on as hard as he could, but not only were heroes getting inhaled, but the ground as well! Sonic knew that there was no reason to live, if his friends were dead and started to let go. But just at Sonic was about to fly head first into the black hole, a strange figure that looked like Sonic pushed him out of the way. It was the legendary Jek the Hedgehog. Arceus tried to attack Jek, but a strange power protected him. At that time, an epic battle unfolded as Jek fought Arceus. After a very long hard battle, Jek finally defeated Arceus. He imprisoned Arceus in a Master Ball and tossed it to Sonic. Jek explained that the power of the Hyper Emeralds protected Jek from Arceus' normal moves. He also explains that the Hyper Emeralds were even more powerful than the Chaos Emeralds. At that time, the worlds were restored and all the heroes to brought back to life. Jek than revealed to Sonic that he was his cousin and decided to join Sonic's party. Sonic and Jek then travel into the Pokemon world and tossed the Master Ball, that was locked in a large chest, into the ocean. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Blaze returned to their normal time in the Mobius past and Jek joined them.
Epilogue: 20,000 Years Later
20,000 years later, after all the heroes, including Sonic have died of old age, Arceus was preserved in the Master Ball the entire time. The old chest, containing the Master Ball floated onto a new Pokemon island, with futuristic buildings and vehicles. Two young Pokemon Trainers, who were exploring the beach, found the chest and used a new type of Poketch to brake the lock, and retrieve the Master Ball and as they are about to open it, the credits roll.

After the player beats Story Mode once, Mission Mode will be unlocked. Mission Mode including easy to very hard missions that include new characters and new bosses that were not in Story Mode. Missions can be Easy, Medium, Hard, or Insane and the player can get a Rank of A-D or if they're really good, up to ***.

Trivia
- Though no Metroid characters appear in the game, the space world includes many elements from the series. However, the space world is based on Super Mario Galaxy more than anything. Also, Ridley appears as a boss.
- When Sonic is in the Mobius' ocean, he holds Silver's hand so that he won't sink. However, in underwater battle, Sonic can swim by himself.
- Lucario's clan of characters that are hiding underground to avoid Giratina, include Unten, Henry the Moose, Litle P, Sandslash P, O'Lantern, Akro Bat, Ghoularry, 4.13, Dragonman, MineMan, and Hiro the Echidna. O'Lantern, 4.13, and Dragonman are used in the battle of Giratina by Lucario.
- Whatever level the player's Sonic is at, at the final boss, is what level Jek the Hedgehog's level will be when fighting Arceus.
- Surprisingly, Sonic Speedball RPG IV: Speedster Mania has the same amount of playable characters are Sonic Speedball RPG III: Nega's Empire.
