Evolves Into Milotic

Feebas, known in Japan as ヒンバス (Hinbass), is a rather ugly Water-type Pokémon, and appears to be the Hoenn counterpart of the rather weak Magikarp. Feebas evolves into Milotic by either leveling up with a high Beauty condition, or by trading it while holding a Prism Scale.

Feebas is a pale-brown fish with irregular spots placed randomly, making it look old and shabby. It has large, deep-set eyes rimmed with black, and thick pink lips. All of Feebas's fins are in a dull blue color. The tailfin and pectoral fins seem extremely tattered and ragged already since the beginning of its life, while the dorsal fin is triangular with a large gaping hole.

Despite Feebas being an quite a rarity for the public, it isn't elusive by any means, as they are extremely populous, but only appear in a set amount of locations. While finding one is quite frustrating, catching one is a cinch, as they aren't that intelligent. Despite it being quite a hassle to encounter a Feebas, it isn't sought after at all; in fact, it is commonly ignored and even despised due to its shoddy appearance. It is even ignored by a lot of researchers. Only a few Pokémon Trainers give it a chance, and with the right conditions, these Trainers might be rewarded with a more beautiful and useful Evolution.

Feebas live in water that are heavily infested with weeds. It eats anything and is very hardy, though, so it can survive in polluted water or little water. They mostly live in schools at the bottom of lakes.

  • Feebas is the only Pokémon that has two ways to evolve into the same Pokémon.

Feebas is based on a bass, likely the largemouth bass. It also resembles the marine hatchetfish a little. Its ugliness comes from several concepts of ugliness, including donning a lot of ugly makeup. Feebas and Milotic may also be based on the fairytale "The Ugly Duckling", where the small, feeble ducking (Feebas) is being outcased by others, but then turns into a beautiful swan (Milotic).

Name Origin

Feebas comes from feeble and bass. Feebas also sounds phonetically similar to phoebus (Latin for shining one), which might allude to Feebas's evolved form.

Hinbass comes from 貧 hin (poor) and bass. The "Hin" part may also come from hind (located at the rear) or hinder.
