This article is about Umbra's appearance in Fantendo Smash Bros. Victory. For the character in other contexts, see Umbra Shader.

Umbra Shader was confirmed to be a playable character in Fantendo Smash Bros. Victory on May 4, 2017. He has a unknown role in the plot.

Background

Umbra Shader lived in the far flung future of the 7880s. He had the power to control the darkness due to being born on a solar eclipse. Although he believed he was born in the year 7880, it turns out he was really born in the past of 1998 and was sent into the future by his parents. After being banished to the past by Queen Nebula (the present now), Umbra is now having to deal with the antiquated past of 2019 with Andromeda. Having lived in the past for 3 years now, Umbra and Xerra seem to know the course of events that will transpire, but both have foggy and unreliable recollections that differ slightly. He encounters Plato and Mara, who have not accidentally warped themselves to the 7880s yet.

Moveset

Standard Attacks

Name Info
NeutralAttackVictory

Wither Snare

Umbra fires off a fierce piercing dark attack with the snap of his fingers, doing 8% damage to the opponent near him.
SideAttackVictory

Shadow Rage

Umbra attacks with his scythe, which knocks the opponent away for 4% damage but does a lot of knockback. Can be a killing move at 80%.
UpAttackVictory

Galvan Rise

Umbra rises his scythe up, summoning dark spirits towards it before releasing it in a powerful upwards swing that does 9% damage.
DownAttackVictory

Beast at Dawn

Umbra slams his scythe down, which can go through solid platforms, dealing 1%-18% damage. The longer the scythe takes to get to someone, the more damage it does. It teleports back into his hand after hitting someone or falling to the depths of the stage.

Special Moves

Name Info
NeutralSpecialAttackVictory

Shade Rope

Umbra can create a black, spindling mass of rope that connects him to opponents and allows him to launch into full out assaults that deal 7% damage.
SideSpecialAttackVictory

Shadow Piercer

Umbra slams his scythe into the ground and sends out a speedy, shadowy projectile that gets louder the more distance it travels before erupting into a explosive scream. The projectile can do anywhere from 6% - 19% damage depending on the distance it hits someone.
UpSpecialAttackVictory

Door of Darkness

A Door of Darkness appears and Umbra opens it to appear in another door that appears in the direction that the player moves the trigger in. Umbra can go up, left, right, or down, but only in these four directions. The more stress the player puts in their direction, the farther the door will be. Umbra gets out of doors slower the farther the child door is from the parent door.
DownSpecialAttackVictory

Gravity Crusher

Umbra flips the personal gravity of his opponent by tapping their shoulder, sending them flying upwards before crashing onto the ground at fast speeds to deal 10% damage. This can be used for teammates as well, which won't harm them.

Finisher

Name Info
VictoryFinisher

White Out

The screen becomes white as Umbra releases a brilliant flash of light, blinding opponents and dealing 30% damage. When opponents become blinded, controls are inverted at random and they move a lot slower.

Umbra Shader
Shadowcalypse 2: Lord of the Blood Moon (2016)

Two years have passed since the events of the last game and Umbra has grown quite a bit since then. He is up against an Iconoclast captured by Nebula's agency called S.T.A.R, as well as a deeper, more personal issue that will define his interactions with others: the question of his asexuality.

Trivia

  • Umbra's moveset takes inspiration from his movepool described from Shadowcalypse: Master of the Eclipse and his team mates. He also takes some inspiration from Cloud Strife's moveset in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, particularly in his side special.
  • Andromeda appears in Umbra's victory poses almost exclusively although she does appear as a separate character in the story mode.
