Have any questions? <div class="button">{{Color-link|Special:ListAdmins|#fff|Contact an admin}}</div>
Your pages must follow '''basic English grammar''' (although pages in different languages are allowed, if they're good quality), and have as few spelling mistakes as possible. Sloppy grammar form and/or badly made sentences will make the page look bad and consequently a higher candidate for deletion!

  +
==Flagging articles==
'''Example:''' sper mrio 500 iz a game.    for wii

  +
Readers should flag articles that don't meet the standards.

  +
To flag an article, add the appropriate template to the top of the article. If someone wrongfully flags articles, an admin may warn them for vandalism.
<big>Have content as soon as you publish</big>

  +
For most articles, use the {{twc|Rewrite}}, {{twc|SpeedyRewrite}}, or {{twc|Delete}} template, depending on severity. When the template's timer expires, an admin can choose to delete the article.
When making a page, plan it out first, be it either on a written draft or in your head. Creating a page with little to nothing on it is a big mistake, even if you plan on expanding it. Pages with little content are called either '''spam''' or '''stubs''', and both have a higher chance of being deleted over other articles. Articles such as [[New Super Mario Bros Chess]], for example, would not be acceptable. Even if you say "I will work on it later", stubs are usually deleted if not expanded over a long period of time. As a standard rule, it is recommended to have at least five hundred bytes of content when publishing a page.

  +
For articles about subjects that aren't from Fantendo, use the {{twc|CanonRewrite}} template. This template has no timer, because linking to these articles is common and convenient, and people other than the article creator can add correct information.
So, always remember to add some content and the "construction" template when you create a page (see [[Fantendo:Help/Tutorials|the Fantendo Help tutorials section]] for info on templates)

  +
It's helpful to add a revision or deletion reason. To add a reason, set the template's first parameter. For example, <code>{{tw|Rewrite|Too short}}</code> tells the article creator know how to improve their article: by making it longer.
<big>Categorize, categorize!</big>

  +
===If your article has been flagged===
Remember to '''always''' categorize your pages. If you made a page on a villain, for instance, it belongs under categories such as "Characters" and "Villains". If you want, you can also create your own user category to index all of the articles you make. Adding the wrong categories to a page, or none at all, will result in other users having to do it and wasting their time! We don't want that, do we?

  +
When you've improved the article to address the revision or deletion reason, feel free to remove the flag template.

  +
If you think your article has been wrongfully flagged, consider discussing it in the comments or talking to an admin. Removing the template yourself may seem confrontational, so it's better to start a discussion first.
<big>Use templates!</big>

  +
We generally don't give leeway for promises to improve an article later. Many people abandon articles that don't meet the standards, even after such promises. The standard {{twc|Rewrite}} timer helps track the 2 weeks to improve the article, which should usually be enough time.
Templates are graphical enhancers to your page that not only make your page look professional, they post important notices about the page and organize it! The most common ones used are [[Template:Infobox|<nowiki>{{Template:Infobox}}</nowiki>]], for organizing game info, and [[Template:Construction|<nowiki>{{Template:Construction}}</nowiki>]], for showing that the page is still being worked on and should not be treated as final work. For more info on adding templates, see [[Fantendo:Help/Tutorials|the Fantendo Help tutorials section]].

  +
If you can't revise your article within the timer, you can copy the source code to a private workspace, and improve the article there. We recommend copying it to [[Special:MyPage/Sandbox|your sandbox]], or a word processor such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
<big>Try not to have an article that's a list!</big>

  +
If your article has already been deleted, it's not too late. You can ask an admin to send you a copy of the article's source code. When you've addressed the deletion reason, feel free to create the article again. Please don't create the article again before it's improved, or it may be deleted again.
Try not to make list pages. List pages are pages where there are only lists, nothing else. This includes character rosters, worlds, etc. Sure, you can put this stuff, just remember to add non-list things, like a story, gallery, and more!

  +
==Length==
: '''NOTE:''' There is an exception if you are making a directory such as [[Characters in the Nightwolf series]]. When making a directory for a game, most people follow this format for the page title: Title/List name. The slash is important, since that would make the page a subpage to that one game. For more info on subpages, hit up [[Fantendo:Help/Tutorials|the Fantendo Help tutorials section]].

  +
'''Articles should contain more than an image, an infobox, a list, or a few sentences.'''

  +
Please add a lead section with general information on the article's subject, and one or more sections for specific details. Depending on the type of article, common sections may include Abilities, Bosses, Characters, Development, Gallery, Gameplay, History, Items, Levels, Locations, Plot, Personality, Powers, and Trivia.
<big>Be creative!</big>

  +
Articles less than 500 bytes (letters and other characters) long are considered stubs, and may be flagged.
The last thing we need is more bad articles such as "SUPER HARRY POTTER VS MARIO X!!!!". Think about it before you create a page. Is this a game you would actually want to play? Would this game sell over two copies at your local game store? We here at Fantendo are attempting to pull ourselves out of our crap-induced slump, and articles like [[Little Nintendo Shop Of Horror: The Musical!]] only worsen the problem.

  +
This section doesn't apply to webcomic pages, which are usually a single image with links to other pages.
So please, it's okay to borrow concepts for use in your game (we are a fanon wiki, after all), but don't copy! Make something more original to yourself!

  +
===To check your article's length===
<big>Do NOT post content from other sites when someone else created it!</big>

  +
You can check your article's length (in bytes) by pasting the source code into a character count tool.

  +
If you've already published your article, you can check its length in the [[Help:Page history|revision history]].
Sometimes, users are uploading images created by other people, who aren't members of this wiki. Sometimes, users make articles about game ideas of non-Fantendo people as well. Users who take an idea/picture made by someone else and post it here without the original creator's permission (and/or without notifying him/her), and claim it as their own, are thieves and ''steal'' ideas. Stealing is against the rules. Stolen content will be tagged for deletion.

  +
==Lists==
As stated above, it's okay to borrow certain concepts, but literally taking anyone else's ideas/images is a big no-no.

  +
Please add information for each list item.

We have some very young kids on Fantendo. Eventually they will see the world for what it is, but please, put warnings on adult content (content with excessive swearing, inappropriate themes, etc.); the recommended template to use is [[Template:Mature|<nowiki>{{Mature}}</nowiki>]] We accept this kind of creativity, but it must be properly labeled.

==Grammar==
<big>Joke articles still must follow page standards!</big>

  +
Articles should use good spelling and grammar.

  +
Poorly written articles are likely to be flagged for revision or deletion. This also applies to joke articles.
Another thing that pops up somewhat commonly is the "joke article". If an article is completely for joking purposes, then it ''still'' must follow the wiki's page standards. For example, [[Poopbutt Koopa]] would be okay as it follows the wiki's standards, but something such as [[Super smash bros : pineaple]] would not be acceptable.

  +
{{Do|'''''Super Mario Odyssey 2''''' is a game for the [[Nintendo Switch]], released in 2020 by [[Nintendo]].|Use good spelling and grammar.}}
==Community Rules==

<big>Do NOT sockpuppet!</big>

  +
{{Don't|'''''super merio odissey 2''''' is 2020 [[Nintendo|nitedo]] game for [[Nintendo Switch|switch]]|Bad spelling and grammar make the passage seem unprofessional. Consider using a spell checker.}}
There have been many issues with this as of late, and there weren't any clear rules about it. Don't create multiple accounts. Many create multiple accounts to evade bans or because they want to start over with the community, though if you are caught using more than one account, '''you will be blocked'''. This includes making accounts while one is blocked while being renamed; unless the rename takes longer than the planned duration of a user rename (about 6 hours on average), you may contact an admin to seek permission. The account will be blocked as soon as the rename is over.

<big>NO spamming!</big>

  +

'''DO NOT''' spam! We're being serious here; we will not allow spamming of any kind, be it comments, pages, anything that is deliberately created to annoy people and has no purpose! Spam will be deleted on sight, and, if you commit multiple offenses, you will be banned.

  +
{{Don't|''Mario Kart 9'' is the best game ever!|This subjective passage seems biased, and may make the author seem vain.}}
<big>If a page is deleted, DON'T recreate it!</big>

  +
===If you're learning English===
Commonly, articles are deleted for being low quality. If an article has been deleted, you cannot recreate it without first revising it to fit our page standards. If you would like to, you may ask an admin to undelete a page of yours so that you can improve it. Constantly recreating an article without improving it will be considered spam, and our policy about spamming can be seen above.

  +
If you want help with grammar, add the {{twc|NotEnglish}} template to the top of your article. This template lets readers correct the article's grammar. For more help, please [[Special:ListAdmins|contact an admin]].

  +
==Formatting==
<big>Do NOT complain to an admin about deleting your article!</big>

  +
This also applies to joke articles.

  +
Instead of using basic color names such as <code>blue</code>, which are often too pure (bright and saturated), we recommend choosing colors from an [//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_colors#X11_color_names X11 color name chart]. Try to choose colors that aren't too pure, don't clash with each other, and create [//webaim.org/resources/contrastchecker contrast] between the text and background.
If an article does not suit the page standards listed above, odds are that it will be deleted. If your article is deleted, please don't go to an admin's talk page and say something like "wow you deleted my page im gonna tell a sysop to ban you". It gets '''very''' annoying when admins are bothered by users about this.

  +
{{Do|1=<div style="background:#260;color:#fff;margin:-7px;text-align:center;padding:7px;">Luigi</div>|2=Create contrast between the text and background.}}

  +
{{Don't|1=<div style="background:lime;color:blue;margin:-7px;text-align:center;padding:7px;">Luigi</div>|2=Pure, clashing colors make the content hard to look at and read.}}
'''DO NOT''' vandalize! That means, do not "blank" a page (which is erasing all or a section of the page), and do not add meaningless and spam-like sections to a page either. To stay safe, do not edit a page at all without permission. Adding '''legitimate''' categories is fine, though.

  +
===Templates===
<big>NO flaming!</big>

  +
Templates are a type of page whose contents are included in multiple articles.

  +
Many [[Project:Help/Tutorials/Common Templates|commonly used templates]] can help articles look professional and consistent.
'''DO NOT''' flame! Flaming is when you incessantly insult a user, spam a user's talk page, or erase parts or the whole talk page. If you are angry at a user, don't flame them, discuss your problems with them and come up with a reasonable conclusion to the situation.

  +
If you want to include a notice or other content on multiple articles, consider creating a new template.
<big>NO trolling!</big>

  +
==Categorization==
'''DO NOT''' troll! Trolling is making idiotic and/or offensive statements to aggravate someone just to laugh at their reaction. Several people here are especially susceptible to trolling, and some react rather...violently (note that this sentence here, were a would-be troll to read it, would encourage them to troll). So remember, be a nice person!

  +
Use the category modules to add as many relevant categories to an article as possible. Category pages organize similar articles so readers can find them more easily.

  +
Add existing categories when possible. New categories should be applicable to many pages. For consistency, format the names of new categories as noun phrases in Title Case.
<big>Limit swearing!</big>

  +
If you're not sure which categories to add to a page, try looking at those on a similar page for a basis. For example, if you are creating a page for a ''Mario Kart'' game, try looking at other ''Mario Kart'' games (in [[:Category:Mario Kart Games]] or wherever else you find one) and see what categorizes those have. Use common sense with this, and don't add categories that do not apply to the subject (for example, don't add [[:Category:Xbox One Games]] to a Nintendo Switch game).
We are not sailors here at Fantendo. '''Limit''' swearing! Some find it annoying and/or offensive. Understand that cursing is okay, but under some limits. You will be effectively warned or banned for excessive cursing.

  +
{{Do|[[Special:Categories|Categories]]: [[:Category:Characters|Characters]] {{!}} [[:Category:Original Characters|Original Characters]] {{!}} [[:Category:Non-binary Characters|Non-binary Characters]] {{!}} [[:Category:Bisexual Characters|Bisexual Characters]] {{!}} [[:Category:Protagonists|Protagonists]] {{!}} [[:Category:Heroes|Heroes]]|Add as many relevant categories as possible.}}
<big>Basic users: DON'T add approval templates!</big>

  +
{{Don't|[[Special:Categories|Category]]: [[:Category:People|People]]|This new category is already covered by [[:Category:Characters|Characters]] or [[:Category:Real People|Real People]].}}
'''DO NOT''' add any approval templates to an article if you are a basic user. '''Sysop''' Approval is named that for a reason! However, feel free to post feedback in a comment on the article you wish to approve of.

  +
{{Don't|[[Special:Categories|Category]]: [[:Category:19th-century Male Philosophers|19th-century Male Philosophers]]|This new category is overly specific, and doesn't apply to many pages.}}
<big>Certain discussions belong in the forum!</big>

  +
If you spam categories for badges, the offending edits will be reverted and you'll receive a warning. You're allowed to earn badges by adding relevant categories.
Note that many discussions are supposed to be posted in forum threads rather than blogposts. These include [[Board:Wiki Advertisement Plaza|Wiki advertisements]], [[Board:Ask Me Anything|AMAs]], and [[Board:Weekly Poll Suggestions|Weekly Poll suggestions]]. This won't result in a warning (unless done excessively), however.

  +
{{Don't|[[Special:Categories|Categories]]: [[:Category:Potato|Potato]] {{!}} [[:Category:Xd|Xd]]|Don't spam categories.}}
<big>'''We will not accept discriminating behavior.'''</big>

  +
==Creativity==
This includes: '''homophobia, transphobia, racism, or sexism''' of any kind, regardless of your reasoning. This will instantly result in a final warning, and if you continue with behavior like this, you will be banned indefinitely.

  +
This isn't punishable, but we find that creativity and originality make articles more interesting. Creative content can express an author's unique voice and interests. It can reduce monotony by adding original elements, making articles' ideas less interchangeable.

  +
Following these standards suggests an encyclopedic article format. But an article's subject can range from an informed prediction to an unrealistic author appeal project. You can take creative liberties. Consider the balance between realism and expression that you want an article to strike.
==Warning Policy==

  +
Please also remember this balance when requesting content for a specific article. More creative projects tend to be more personal, so these requests can clash with the author's creative vision. Instead, consider creating your own article to host your ideas and creative vision.
Users can be warned for breaking any of the above rules. Usually, if the action isn't deliberate, a {{Tem|Reminder}} is given. If it is deliberate, then a {{Tem|Warning}} is given first. If the action continues, another warning is given and then a {{Tem|Lastwarn}} is given. If the user is still violating the rules, then users can be blocked for varying lengths, depending on the level to which they broke the rules. {{Tem|Blocked}} should then be added to their user and talk pages, along with the amount of time they're blocked for. When the block ends, the user may remove the template from their userpage, but it cannot be removed from talk pages.

  +
==Mature content==
Please remember that only sysops are allowed to warn people. Warning people without permission could result in a reminder.

  +
To protect children and others who don't want to see mature content, tag articles containing sensitive or inappropriate themes. Please handle these subjects with care and subtlety.

  +
Mild mature content is allowed but should be tagged. This includes cursing, alcohol and drug references, sexual references, and mild violence. To tag an article containing mild mature content, add {{twc|Mature}} to the top of the article.
  +
  +
Tasteless and explicit mature content aren't allowed. Mature content shouldn't break the [[w:c:community:Fandom Community Guidelines#Don't post porn, shock images, or explicit descriptions of sex|Fandom Community Guidelines]]. Please flag any such articles for revision or deletion, depending on the severity of the content.
  +
  +
This section also applies to files. Explicit files are deleted on sight.
  +
  +
==Reasons for deletion==
  +
When an admin deletes a page, they can leave a deletion reason to explain why.
  +
  +
This is a standard part of the deletion process, but it isn't mandatory. If the deletion reason isn't obvious, please make sure you understand the rules and standards, then ask an admin for clarification.

This is the one-stop page for all Fantendo article standards.

Thank you for reading the Fantendo article standards! We enforce these standards for quality control. Please understand that others may criticize and edit your work to enforce the rules and standards.

By editing the wiki, you agree to accept and follow these standards.

Have any questions?

Flagging articles

Readers should flag articles that don't meet the standards.

To flag an article, add the appropriate template to the top of the article. If someone wrongfully flags articles, an admin may warn them for vandalism.

For most articles, use the {{Rewrite}}, {{SpeedyRewrite}}, or {{Delete}} template, depending on severity. When the template's timer expires, an admin can choose to delete the article.

For articles about subjects that aren't from Fantendo, use the {{CanonRewrite}} template. This template has no timer, because linking to these articles is common and convenient, and people other than the article creator can add correct information.

It's helpful to add a revision or deletion reason. To add a reason, set the template's first parameter. For example, {{Rewrite|Too short}} tells the article creator know how to improve their article: by making it longer.

If your article has been flagged

When you've improved the article to address the revision or deletion reason, feel free to remove the flag template.

If you think your article has been wrongfully flagged, consider discussing it in the comments or talking to an admin. Removing the template yourself may seem confrontational, so it's better to start a discussion first.

We generally don't give leeway for promises to improve an article later. Many people abandon articles that don't meet the standards, even after such promises. The standard {{Rewrite}} timer helps track the 2 weeks to improve the article, which should usually be enough time.

If you can't revise your article within the timer, you can copy the source code to a private workspace, and improve the article there. We recommend copying it to your sandbox, or a word processor such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs.

If your article has already been deleted, it's not too late. You can ask an admin to send you a copy of the article's source code. When you've addressed the deletion reason, feel free to create the article again. Please don't create the article again before it's improved, or it may be deleted again.

Length

Articles should contain more than an image, an infobox, a list, or a few sentences.

Articles less than 500 bytes (letters and other characters) long are considered stubs, and may be flagged.

This section doesn't apply to webcomic pages, which are usually a single image with links to other pages.

To check your article's length

You can check your article's length (in bytes) by pasting the source code into a character count tool.

If you've already published your article, you can check its length in the revision history.

Lists

Please add information for each list item.

Pokémon:
  • Ivysaur: This dual Grass/Poison-type can attack with vines and sharpened leaves, and photosynthesize through the bulb on its back to restore health.
  • Charizard: A bulky, firebreathing Fire-type, it can Mega Evolve into two stronger forms, but its flaming tail is a weak point if put out.
  • Squirtle: This Water-type's size and weight make it an evasive small target; it can also retreat into its shell to increase its defense.

Do: Add detail to lists.

Pokémon:
  • Ivysaur
  • Charizard
  • Squirtle

Don't: This list doesn't explain the differences between each item.

If your list has a lot of information in a standard format, consider converting it into a table. Tables are easier to read, and can automatically be sorted.

Pokémon
# Name Types Weight (lb.) Description
002 Ivysaur Grass
Poison
29 Ivysaur can attack with vines and sharpened leaves, and photosynthesize through the bulb on its back to restore health.
006 Charizard Fire 200 A bulky firebreather, Charizard can Mega Evolve into two stronger forms, but its flaming tail is a weak point if put out.
007 Squirtle Water 20 Squirtle's size and weight make it an evasive small target; it can also retreat into its shell to increase its defense.

Do: Consider using tables to organize information.

Grammar

Articles should use good spelling and grammar.

Poorly written articles are likely to be flagged for revision or deletion. This also applies to joke articles.

Super Mario Odyssey 2 is a game for the Nintendo Switch, released in 2020 by Nintendo.

Do: Use good spelling and grammar.

super merio odissey 2 is 2020 nitedo game for switch

Don't: Bad spelling and grammar make the passage seem unprofessional. Consider using a spell checker.

We prefer an encyclopedic tone. This helps articles seem more realistic and unbiased.

Mario Kart 9 received "universal acclaim", according to review aggregator Metacritic.

Do: Use an encyclopedic tone to add a sense of realism.

Mario Kart 9 is the best game ever!

Don't: This subjective passage seems biased, and may make the author seem vain.

If you're learning English

If you want help with grammar, add the {{NotEnglish}} template to the top of your article. This template lets readers correct the article's grammar. For more help, please contact an admin.

Formatting

This also applies to joke articles.

Instead of using basic color names such as blue, which are often too pure (bright and saturated), we recommend choosing colors from an X11 color name chart. Try to choose colors that aren't too pure, don't clash with each other, and create contrast between the text and background.

Luigi

Do: Create contrast between the text and background.

Luigi

Don't: Pure, clashing colors make the content hard to look at and read.

Templates

Templates are a type of page whose contents are included in multiple articles.

Many commonly used templates can help articles look professional and consistent.

If you want to include a notice or other content on multiple articles, consider creating a new template.

Categorization

Use the category modules to add as many relevant categories to an article as possible. Category pages organize similar articles so readers can find them more easily.

Add existing categories when possible. New categories should be applicable to many pages. For consistency, format the names of new categories as noun phrases in Title Case.

If you're not sure which categories to add to a page, try looking at those on a similar page for a basis. For example, if you are creating a page for a Mario Kart game, try looking at other Mario Kart games (in Category:Mario Kart Games or wherever else you find one) and see what categorizes those have. Use common sense with this, and don't add categories that do not apply to the subject (for example, don't add Category:Xbox One Games to a Nintendo Switch game).

Do: Add as many relevant categories as possible.

Category: People

Don't: This new category is already covered by Characters or Real People.

Creativity

This isn't punishable, but we find that creativity and originality make articles more interesting. Creative content can express an author's unique voice and interests. It can reduce monotony by adding original elements, making articles' ideas less interchangeable.

Following these standards suggests an encyclopedic article format. But an article's subject can range from an informed prediction to an unrealistic author appeal project. You can take creative liberties. Consider the balance between realism and expression that you want an article to strike.

Please also remember this balance when requesting content for a specific article. More creative projects tend to be more personal, so these requests can clash with the author's creative vision. Instead, consider creating your own article to host your ideas and creative vision.

Mature content

To protect children and others who don't want to see mature content, tag articles containing sensitive or inappropriate themes. Please handle these subjects with care and subtlety.

Mild mature content is allowed but should be tagged. This includes cursing, alcohol and drug references, sexual references, and mild violence. To tag an article containing mild mature content, add {{Mature}} to the top of the article.

Tasteless and explicit mature content aren't allowed. Mature content shouldn't break the Fandom Community Guidelines. Please flag any such articles for revision or deletion, depending on the severity of the content.

This section also applies to files. Explicit files are deleted on sight.

Reasons for deletion

When an admin deletes a page, they can leave a deletion reason to explain why.

This is a standard part of the deletion process, but it isn't mandatory. If the deletion reason isn't obvious, please make sure you understand the rules and standards, then ask an admin for clarification.
