Eternika (spelled eterni-kah, also known as Eternika: Eternal Conflict in Japan) is a 2017 fighting game developed and published by Stardust Citadel. The game is the company's last released game before disbanding, with the rights of it's propreties given to other developers, with Eternika being given to Pyro Enterprises. The game features an all-female cast of characters similar to Skullgirls, featuring characters with wildly different personalities and abilities. The game is intended to be beginner-friendly to those unaware of fighting game terminology.

Set in present day, the game features a tournament between the Heirs of the Legends, a legion of heroic characters who protected humanity against Viubhal, a powerful god who seeked to rule over humanity. Years later, their descendants are called by the other gods who fear the ressurection of Viubhal. Considering that Viubhal could come stronger than he originally did when the original Legends fought them, the Gods put their descendants in a tournament known as Eternika in order to find the one that truimphs over them and is worthy of the power, to protect humanity from Viubhal's wrath.

Gameplay

Eternika is a one on one fighting game, where the objective is simply to defeat the opponent by inflicting damage and depleting their health bar. The game utilizes a simplified 4 button set up, with the face buttons being utilized for high and low kicks and punches and the shoulder buttons being reserved for guard and dodges. A combination of directional inputs with punches and kicks can trigger special moves unique for their characters.

The players have access to three special abilities in battle that needs to be filled before using: Heriditary Power, Reaction and Berserker. The players can increase their Heriditary Power bar by succesfully attacking or defending, although they can also increase by reciving damage, at a slower rate though. The Heriditary Power is a special powerful, sometimes unblockable move, that can go up to three levels. Utilizing a Heriditary Power decreases a level from the bar. The Reaction bar fills up when recieving damage and it only goes up one level. Reactions can be triggered if the player are trapped in a middle of the opponent combo, allowing them to break out of it and equalize the playing field. The last bar is known as Berserker and this one isn't visible on screen. The Berserker ability can be triggered at any point in the battle, but only once and not during the start of it. It gives the user an increase in strength and agility for a short time. This is intended to be used to finish off the battle or to give the losing side a better chance at overcoming the opponent.

In regards to those three abilties, Reactions always takes precedence over them. That means that the player cannot keep on an infinite combo and it is important to understand it when attacking the opponent. The Reaction bar will decrease if the player stops recieving damage. Another feature of Eternika is styles, separated into Regular, Power, Focus and Endurance. With the exception of the first, they change how certain aspects of their characters change such as the power of attacks, the increase rate of special abilities, defense and agility. If the player picks a style other than Regular, their chosen character will appear with a colorful glow, with the color being the same as the style the player picked. This effect only lasts pre-match.

Finally, there are also clashes. When the two characters utilize the same type attack of which the user has control of (e.g. weapon attacks), a clash will ensue where the players must button mash their way out, the one that mashes the most wins the clash, getting a free attack and leaving the opponent open for another strike. This feature can toggled off if the player chooses to.

In the roster screen, she appears in place of the random select screen and she will pick another character for the player that chooses her.

Character
HamaRedesign Hinata von Brandt
The Heir of Flames

The last living member of the Drakkonian race, half-human, half-dragon hybrids, Hinata was once slated to be the next queen of their kingdom, until a war broke out between their rival race the Clepysdrians, of which caused the near extinction of the two races. Hinata was one of the few survivors, mainly for not being part of the conflict at all, as she was somewhere else during the whole thing. She had no interest in playing royalty at all, and as such she strived her own path, becoming an infamous mercenary who lived through out the centuries.

As a fighter, Hinata showcases quick and agile ways to dominate an opponent, which is her major advantage and also her biggest downfall. She can easily take over control over a fight, but once momentum is shifted to the other side, it is difficult to find a way to counter, although it is not outright impossible. She has one of the game's smallest total health and lacks defensive capabilities, making her a glass cannon. She is one of the few characters to have two weapons, both of which she can use as projectiles, the Burnt Spear and the Magma Boomerang. Notably, she is the only character not to be identified to be living in a real world locale, although it is said that the land of her kingdom now is known as Romania.

CorshamaRedesign Lynna Mercury
The Heir of Soul

An underground music sensation and the leader of the rock group Corshama, a reference to the nickname of the infamous 17th century mercenary. Lynna is obsessed with the supernatural, which led her discover the Fool's Game, which could potentionally allow someone to summon demons. As a curious person, Lynna tried out the Fool's Game only to summon a demon by the name of Thellia, who forces Lynna to sign a pact with her. Despite the forceful first encounter, the two seemingly get along, although only Lynna sees Thellia, which makes others confused whenever she refers to her.

Lynna is an unique character by the fact that she doesn't fight directly, Thellia is the one that does the most of the work for her. Lynna's part in the confrontation is the ability to buff, debuff and give special attributes to Thellia for a short time. Lynna's connection with Thellia is linked directly to her guitar, of which if destroyed she cannot summon Thellia for a short period. Her guitar is techincally considered a weapon and as such it can be utilized offensively to finish a combo. Thellia can attack from a long range. Lynna is a potentinally threating character as long as she is away from danger herself.

InulaRedesign Inula Hailwic
自然 The Heir of Nature 自然

A girl who lives in the woods, claiming to be born from it. Calling herself the spirit of nature, she protects it from anyone that seeks to harm it. Naïve and curious, she spends her time mostly wandering through out the woods. She doesn't talks directly, she appears to communicate through objects around her, of which she posseses and emits sounds from.

Inula as a playable character serves mostly as a defensive one. Her defensive capabilities are pretty powerful, allowing her to protect from even the most dangerous of moves. Her attacks are precise, which means that they need to be used at a certain situation. As such, Inula is a character that is focused on counter attacking, directly rushing the opponent isn't a good alternative, compared to her potentional as a counter attacker. She is also the only character that can heal, although at a very slow rate that can be interrupted. Best used when the opponent is stunned or dizzy.

ReneeRedesign Reneé Keanna
The Heir of Strength

A deliquent who studies at Good Manners College. Although her harsh exterior may seem like someone that enjoys dishing out pain, the truth is Reneé simply wants to have peace around her, although her fame as a deliquent unfortunately brought more loud and annoying people around her, of which she either scares them up or punches them. Either way works. She lives by her own rules, refusing to pay restaurants if they serve shitty food, attending school if she wants to, etc. Despite this, she has a polite side and is quite smart.

As a playable character, she lacks projectiles, although some of her abilities can reflect them in case they become a nuisance. Her main ability is to dish out pain, constantly. Her attacks are brutal and quick, although their short range makes up for their insane usefulness. She has the highest total health of the entire game and can quickly trigger into Berserker mode and she starts off with a small power and speed boost, thanks to her unique skill Anger Mode, which only works at the start of the rounds. As such, Reneé is at her best at the start of a confrontation, and her usefulness decreases over time.

AbigailRedesign Abigail Ainsworth
The Heir of Light

A young magician who specializes in optical illusions. That is how Abigail is known by day, as an act. However by night, she continues the Ainsworth bloodline of actual wizards as she attempts to uncover the mystery behind the curse that was implict on her, that every full moon she would turn into a werewolf. From what she learns, she discovers the Ainsworths were enemies with the Elnoras, who were known as the Night Casters. Thinking that an Elnora placed the curse on her, she seeks to find the one who did, by travelling around the world under the guise of a magician.

As an Ainsworth, Abigail is the Light Caster, which allows her to modify light from surroundings and objects. She can direct light onto opponents, create flashes of light that temporarily stun the opponent or make objects invisible. As such, Abigail is a character that, while she can directly fight head on, gets the most use out of through set ups. Her abilities are quite useful on their own, although it's thanks to her aforementioned skills as a Light Caster that players can create elaborate setups and traps to hit the opponent when they can't see it coming. She uses a staff with a shining orb as a weapon, the orb can be destroyed, which leaves the whole room dark for a short time and leaving Abigail open for attack.

Unlike the other characters, Yuko doesn't have an otherworldly backstory or a motivation, she was simply the descedant of the Legend of the Shadows. She isn't specialized in combat at all and if the tournament chooses her to be an opponent of someone else, she simply forfeits. However, Yuko has to still participate in battles in which she takes a different approach, joining battles as the narrator.

Yuko provides general commentary of the match, as well announcing the combatants in the battle. She appears in the backgrounds of arenas, usually trying to follow along whatever is happening on the main screen. She often appears holding the victor's hand upwards at the end of battles. She can be toggled off if the player chooses too.
