Notable Members

Embers are creatures made entirely of flame, much like Podoboo, only they're blue and have yellow eyes. They first appeared in Paper Mario and then in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. In the Paper Mario games, using a fire attack against it makes it heal, and sometimes split into more Embers. They reappear in their first 3D appearance in Super Mario Land 3D as rare enemies.

Game Appearances

Mario & Luigi: Rivals Quest

Embers appear in this game produced by Shooting Star Studios.

Super Mario Land 3D

Embers reappear in Super Mario Land 3D as rare enemies, only found in Ghost Houses. Unlike Podoboos, they don't act as obstacles, and don't jump out of lava to attack. They float around on the floor and will follow the player. Like in Paper Mario games, if the player throw fireballs or fiery objects at them, they will make them heal and sometimes will split into more Embers. They take their look from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, with yellow eyes instead of blue.

Lets-a-go, Mario

Embers reappear in Lets-a-go, Mario, with their design and behavior from Super Mario Land 3D as enemies in the Spooky Area. A pair of them also constantly circle around Death Guy.

Mushroom War

Embers appear in some caverns throughout the world map and along Star Way in this massively multiplayer online action platformer published by Lunatic Entertainment. They are more aggressive than their Podoboo counterparts, leaping directly at players, despite their alignment. Attacking them with fiery attacks such as with a Fire Flower power-up has a 40% chance to split the Ember into two.

Big Podoboos, Black Podoboos, Blue Podoboos, Fireballs, Lava Ghosts, Phantom Embers, Podoboos, Poison Bubbles, Pyrospheres, and Zigzag Podoboos also appear throughout the game.

Notably, their sprite combines aspects of the two slightly differing designs seen in the official games: When passive their eyes will be blue, like the rest of their bodies, but once aggroed, their eyes will alight and become a contrasting, fierce yellow.
