Elementals are a large group of races found across the Boundless Fantendoverse, they're categorized as a wholly separate entity from other forms of life as they manifest from sources of the element they're associated with. Although many Elementals can possess magical attributes many have what normal species would consider magical as innate to their existence. There is no one basic elemental, rather elementals can vary wildly based on the element they derive from and the environment they were created into. In addition Elementals are considered both biological and non-biological as they can appear naturally in nature but also be created through means other than genetic cloning.

Appearance[]

There is no single unifying appearance for Elementals as the element they're derived from can itself vary wildly, although there are some general traits such as a rudimentary humanoid shape typically with at least two arms, although many do not possess any other limbs. Generally they're capable of some form of floating or levitation and they have been observed to have a sort of core which is the basis of their existence, as such it is actually quite a bit more difficult for an Elemental to die as for as long as the core is able to function and receive energy they can sustain themselves seemingly for eternity, although many choose not to.

Elementals are also often confused with actual biological species that exist and the physical differences can often be hard to tell, although as a general rule Elementals do not reproduce with other Elementals and so a lineage of elementals doesn't usually exist like it would for biological life.

Culture[]

Due to the sheer variety of elementals there is no singular unifying culture, often Elementals will come into existence on planets with other forms of life and adapt to that life's own culture. In some rare cases where an Planet is considered to have extreme climates, large populations of Elementals can come to exist, these planets however are exceedingly rare and so far only two planets of such as known to exist Brimstone and Stratos, the former is a planet dominated by Fire Elementals and the latter is dominated by Wind Elementals.

The culture of Brimstone is viewed as rather rudimentary and rather gladiatorial, the Fire Elementals of the planet seem to be able to absorb the power of one another through combat and as a result powerful rulers are champions of the numerous arenas and colosseums that exist throughout the planet. Its volcanic climate also makes it extremely difficult for them to be properly studied so not much is known about their day-to-day lives, they do appear to possess some form of a hierarchical structure which has gotten them to a metal age technologically but it is unknown if they will evolve to become space-faring.

In contrast, on Stratos, the Wind Elementals are well-known to have acquired space travel some time ago, they're considered one of the most well-adapted for space travel as they're able to dissipate their bodies in the vacuum of space and reform them once they make contact with a planet with an atmosphere. Like the Fire Elementals, there is a strong sense of competitiveness among the Wind Elementals although they were capable of manifesting this into sporting events, the most well-known being the Space Races that they and various others conduct on a yearly basis, most of the Wind Elementals also tend to towards moving to other planets to live on their own. According to seismic records of Stratos, the planet's extreme rotational speed has been gradually slowing down over the past million years and will eventually render the planet incapable of producing new Wind Elementals in large numbers.

Abilities[]

Elementals are commonly mistaken as innately magical, their powers instead manifest from their cores which are able to convert energy into their derived element. This varies greatly from Elemental to elemental although many typically are able to do so by converting energy from one form into another or creating matter from energy. Some of the more unusual elementals such as the space-dwelling Elementals are also capable of manifesting energy on their own without a source although due to their obscene rarity this is not fully understood.

History in the Fantendoverse[]

Due to the possibility of an Elemental turning up on basically any planet at any point throughout all of time they're most likely the most well-known entities in existence, however due to the sheer variety of them that exist there is no singular consensus on Elementals with some species preferring particular Elementals over others. In terms of historical significance, Elementals tend to be rather unimpressive in this regard, although they're involved in numerous conflicts and events throughout history they're often but a small portion of those involved and in conflicts have been known to fight on both sides, having little to no allegiance to their Elemental origins.
