An Electrokoopa is a special Koopa Troopa that, so far, has been found exclusively in Super Mario Sunshine, where they primarily inhabit Pinna Park.

They are so named because of their electrified shells. You can't beat them by jumping on them outright; doing so will hurt you. Electrokoopas come in two varieties: the ground-dwelling blue shelled ones, and the wall-clinging red-shelled ones.

The key to getting rid of the blue variety is to wait for it to shoot its shell at you; you must then either jump on it while it's a Beach Koopa, before its shell comes back to it, or squirt it with FLUDD water, which causes it to get zapped by its own shell. The latter method gives you four Coins. To kill a red Electrokoopa, you must get on the opposite side of whatever fence it's on, and punch/kick it off.

A giant green Electrokoopa is part of Pinna Park's fifth mission, where you must kill it to bring the fast-moving Ferris wheel back under control.

Red Electrokoopas also appear in Pianta Village, whereas blue ones only appear in Sirena Beach's fifth mission, "King Boo Down Below", as a possible enemy he can spin should his slot machine land on three question marks.

Fanon appearances[]

St. Clair Publications[]

In the St. Clair Publications Universe, Electrokoopas take on the appearance of regular Koopas, albeit with a purple shell, and in Paper Mario: The Temple of Time, they replace Dark Koopas, who also had purple shells. Even games that feature Super Mario Sunshine levels use these Koopas in place of the game's own, such as Life in FCHS: The New Old Video Game (where Pinna Park is the fifth level of Retro World). The wall-clinging Electrokoopas have pink shells.

This makes them bipedal, rather than the quadrupedal as in SMS. Naturally, this means that Electro-Paratroopas also exist.
