Earthworm Jim: Back in Action is an action-comedy 3D platformer by Clover Entertainment. It is the first Earthworm Jim game made in YEARS! It was released on August 14th, 2012, and as of October 27, has earned 7 million copies. It is for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS. It also features a soundtrack with some songs by the band "Smash Mouth", and a few other bands.
It all started when Jim, a normal earthworm, had a special "super suit" fall from the sky and allowed him to operate much like a human, with his "worm-part" acting as a head, and the suit acting as arms, body, and legs. Jim's task is two-fold, he must evade the original games many antagonists, who were after him because they want the suit back, and also rescue and protect Princess-What's-her-Name from them.
In Back in Action, it has been YEARS since Earthworm Jim last wore the suit. He had it in his closet. He is living a normal life of a worm, eating dirt, when suddenly, Bob the Killer Goldfish returns and invades Earth with an army, and kidnap’s Jim’s new girlfriend. Now, Jim must get back in the suit and protect his world and others.
The gameplay is an open-world 3-D platformer. Jim can use his ray gun or punch his enemies to defeat them. Jim is capable of lifting heavy objects out of the way to create a path through tunnels, and along his quest, Earthworm Jim must battle evil bosses, like Bob the Killer Goldfish (obviously), Psy-Crow, Professor Monkey-for-a-head, and more. You can upgrade Jim’s super-suit from coins you collect in the world, such as giving Jim the ability to fly for a limited time. If your health is low, you can eat mounds of dirt found in the world to restore health (because he’s an Earthworm). If your ray gun runs out of ammo, get more from enemies you defeat.
You can also collect bonus content, such as the ability to play the ORIGINAL Earthworm Jim (though you can’t save your progress on that).
