Dragon Ball Z Budokai Battle 2

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Battle 2 is the sequel to DBZ Budokai Battle. It improves on many aspects from the original, like more characters, fleshed out gameplay, a improved "story" mode, and even an exclusive OVA.

Gameplay

Returning Gameplay

The gameplay of Budokai Battle is very similar to the other Budokai games; basic kicks, punches and combos are available, along with the "Ki Blast" button and a direction leading to a more powerful version of that attack, for example a Kamehameha or Destructo Disc. The game makes use of a multiple health bar system, with each character having a maximum (determined in the game options) of six health "blocks" that are worn down until the character reaches zero, when they are knocked out.

It also makes use of a "Fatigue meter" - blocking and certain attacks use up fatigue and when this reaches zero, the character is stunned for a few moments while he or she recovers - and the "Ki meter", which is a gradually regenerating bar that provides power for larger energy attacks, transformations, "powering up" and the game's finishing moves, "ultimate" attacks. In order to transform, you press down on R1 (in the PlayStation 4 version) or RB (in the Xbox 1 version).

Any character in the roster can also be picked as a "support" character - support characters are available in every fight and may be activated in a similar way to drama scenes. A cutscene will begin and the character will be shown deflecting an energy blast, kicking the opponent or standing in the way of an attack in order to defend the player, transferring itself to affect the battle in a number of ways, such as enhanced ki regeneration, damage down or fatigue down. The game then returns to normal gameplay.

Each character can be optionally customized by selecting one of three or two ultimate attacks that every character has. The weaker moves take shorter to charge, while the stronger attacks take longer.

Certain characters have special traits that can alter the course of battle:

• Android characters: While they lack the ability to charge Ki, they can gain more Ki by absorbing Ki Blasts, which they do instead of reflecting Ki. They also replenish Ki faster than normal characters. Includes characters like Android 13, 16, 17, 18, and Dr. Gero.
• Large characters: While slower, larger characters do not flinch from smaller characters light attacks. Other large characters or higher forms can, however. Includes characters like Broly, Debora, Android 16, and Syn Shenron.
• Majins: Majins have the distinct ability to regenerate health, albeit at a very slow rate. Once their health reaches a single bar, however, the healing stops. They gain an attack boost if their health is full as well. Includes characters like Majin Buu, Super Buu, and Kid Buu.
• Non-Ki Users: These guys cannot shoot KI Blasts, insted their Ki button is now a counter attack. They can still fly for balancing reasons, but slowley float downwards if holding still. These characters include Hercule, Kid Goku, Jaco, Yajirobe, Arale, Android 8, and Chi-Chi.
• Ultra Instinct: This is the greatest trait in the game, as the character will instantly dodge any and all basic attacks on the spot. Supers and ultimates still work on them though. The two character with this trait are Ultra Instinct Goku and Whis.

New Changes

• Beam struggles have been added. If two beam attacks hit each other at the same time, both players will be caught in a beam struggle. You'll need to rotate the control stick to push it forward towards the opponent.
• The weaklings trait has been removed. Hercule, Pilaf, and Jaco now classify as Non-Ki Users. A new trait has also been added: Ultra Instinct.
• Non-Ki users now float for a little longer.

Stages

Stages
	The World Tournament arena is a large arena that many tournaments are held every 5 years to determine who is the strongest. It's one of the games largest stage, and for good reason: if a player where knocked off of the ring, they would be instantly K.O'ed! Stay on your feet and try not to get knocked off! Ring Out: Yes
World Tournament Arena
	This large wasteland has seen many different battles take place in it: from Goku and Yamcha's first fight to the legendary battle between saiyans, it's had a lot of action in it. You fight on the top of the mountains, and a well-timed attack can knock the opponent off of one and launch them onto another mountain. Ring Out: No
Empty Desert
	This once peaceful planet is the home of the Namekians, a pacifist race that neverless houses some very strong warriors, including Piccolo, Nail, and Elder Guru. You fight on a large patch of land, and you can knock your opponent into the background and launch them into mountains, or even Gurus house of Frieza's ship! Ring Out: No
Planet Namek
	The Hyperbolic Time Chamber is pretty much the perfect place to train: every day inside the chamber equals an hour outside of it, so its great for very long training in a short amount of time. There isn't much in the ways of features here, it's just a flat battleground. You can destroy the time chamber entrance, however. Ring Out: No
Hyperbolic Time Chamber
	On this small island lives a lone house, belonging to the great Master Roshi. It's also the home of Krillin, Android 18, and Marron, along with Launch and Tien. The island is pretty small, but fighters can float on top of the water to continue fighting. You can also break and destroy the Kame House, though Roshi wouldn't like that. Ring Out: No
The Kame House Island
	West City is a large city and a hotspot for villains to invade and destroy. It's been rebuilt several times, and been destroyed even more time. Humanity can't catch a break. You fight in the middle of the streets, and you can break plenty of things around you. A strong enough attack can even destroy the entire block you fight on! Ring Out: No
The West City
	This is where the evil being known as Cell held a tournament to determin if he would destroy the planet or not. He created this arena to fight in, though it was later destroyed by him. Much like the tournament arena, you can get ringed out of the stage. However, some super attacks can destroy the arena platform itself. Ring Out: Yes
Cell Games Arena
	Inside here is the base of the Red Ribbon Army, what was once the most feared army in the world. Their legacy came crashing down once they picked a fight with a young Goku, however. Inside the base are a ton of machinery and explosives that can be destroyed. Sometimes, a ship will set off in the background. Ring Out: No
Red Ribbon Army Base
	Here lives the almighty Kami, the guardian of Earth and a very old Namekian, alongside his assistant Mr. Popo. The Z-Fighters like to visit the Lookout to train or regroup after fights. It is one of the few stages in the game that you can get rung out of. In this case, it's falling off of a 2000ft platform onto your demise. Ring Out: Yes
Kami's Lookout
	This is where the legendary Tournament of Power took place, where all 12 Universes competed to prove which Universe was the best and to avoid their own universe getting erased. This stage can be broken pretty badly, like it was in the show, and can even be destroyed. Watch out, because it's also a ringout stage. Ring Out: Yes
Tournament of Power Arena
	Hell used to be a very scary place bad souls go to suffer for their sins. However, Janemba turned Hell into a jellybean filled land for his own amusment. This is by far the largest stage in the game, and is great for using the keep away stategy on. By the way, watch for those jellybeans. Sometimes, they fall onto the battlefield! Ring Out: No
Janembafied Hell
	This was once the planet that the Tuffles lived on before the arrival of the Saiyan race wiped them and the planet out. Baby managed to use the Black Star Balls to bring the planet back. You fight in the center of the buildings, all of which are very fragile. A single good Super Attack can flatten the entire city in one go! Ring Out: No
Planet Tuffle
	When Goku was killed by Raditz, he was sent to King Kai's planet in order to train for the arival of Nappa and Vegeta. He still trains on the planet out of respect for his old master. This stage has King Kai's house and car on it, both of which can be destroyed. King Kai himself, along with Bubbles and Gregory, watch the match. Ring Out: No
King Kai's Planet
	This kooky village is home to some of the strangest people you'll ever meet, from the android Arale to the reckless Superhero Suppaman. You fight in front of the Coffie Pot and can demolish pretty much every building in the village. The residents of the village watch from the background, cheering the victor on. Ring Out: No

Game Modes

Gamemodes
In Battle Mode, you can have a free battle against a CPU or friend in a freely customizable battle. You can set how much health both fighters have, what capsules they can use, if certan stages have ringout or not, etc. You can even have two-on-two battles with up to 4 friends.
In Tournament Mode, you fight through 4 rounds in a tournament filled with CPU enemies. Depending on how far you get will get you more Zeni. You can also create our own tourney that friends can participate in, or just have a CPU-only tournament to watch.
In Endurance Mode, you fight multiple enemies in a row one after another on a single health bar. There are different themed endurances that uses certan characters, though you could do the default random one. You can even have player 2 control the opponents.
In Training Mode, you can practice your favorite characters moves and specials to your pace. You can set what the CPU does, what your stats are, etc.
In Hercule Mode, you fight through any of the Legacy Mode missions like normal, but with two minor differences: the CPU is always at max difficulty, and you have to play as Hercule. It's very difficult, but beating the mission nets you 1,000,000 Zeni every time.

New Legacy Mode

Legacy Mode returns in Budokai Battle 2, and this time it has even more stages per saga, even with completley new what-if scenarios. However, theres a new feature: you can only play the stage if you have the characters in the stage unlocked. For example, you cannot play "What if Vegito and Gogeta Fought Again?" without unlocking both Vegito and SS4 Gogeta first.

Dragon Ball Search Deluxe

Dragon Ball Search Deluxe is an expanded version of the first game's Dragon Ball Search mode.

Taking notes from Budokai 3's story mode, every Dragon Ball Search mission has the selected character flying through the Dragon Ball world, in search of the legendary 7 balls. You are free to fly around the map to explore the world, but your main objective is to find the dragon balls. The map will mark the locations you must travel to in order to find them, and each time you have to battle someone for it. After gathering all 7 Dragon Balls, your character makes their wish and you win.

You don't just have to look for Dragon Balls, however. You can explore the Dragon Ball world to your hearts content, and there are plenty of things to find. For example:

• Items: You can find Zeni, Capsules, and other items laying around.
• Training Spots: Here you can train against Saibamen, Cell Jrs, or Metal Coolers.
• Korins Shop: This is where you can buy various items.
• Secret Fights: These are fights you'll need to go out of your way to find. Completing them more often then not unlocks a new character to play as.

As you play the game, you'll find many capsules that you are allowed to equip onto your character to boost their stats or give them an advantage in battle. You can equip up to 5 capsules, though some will take up more than one slot, with the maximum being 5. The complete list of capsules are here.

Android 16	Android 16 isn't feeling so good. He's convinced that all of his emotions are artifical, no matter how advanced Bulma tells him he is. Deciding that he wants to be like his friends, Android 16 decides to go out in search of the Dragon Balls to have emotions.
Wish: To be able to have actual emotions.
Android 17	Boredom is the absolute worst, especially if you are created specifically to fight. Android 17 hasn't had some action in quite some time, so he decides to go out on a little trip to find the 7 Dragon Balls to wish for something to do or someone to be with.
Wish: To find a way to never be bored again.
Android 16	Android 18 has a problem with money. At least, thats what her friends and husband say about her. She just claims she finds it interesting. The android decides that the easiest and most legal way to get a lot of it was to find the 7 Dragon Balls.
Wish: For a load of money.
Doctor Gero	Dr. Gero posseses a hatred of Goku that surpasses that of even Frieza, and has dedicated most of his life to try and destroy him. Eventually, he decides to use the 7 Dragon Balls to wish himself an android thats even stronger then Goku.
Wish: For an Android strong enough to slay Goku.
Bardock	He has no idea how, but Bardock has managed to survive Frieza's supernova. In fact, it seems to have launched him forwards in time. Learning of the 7 Dragon Balls, Bardock sets out to find them and use them to return to his time and become stronger.
Wish: To become stronger and return to the past to kill Frieza.
Captain Ginyu	After failing yet another mission for Frieza, Captain Ginyu has grown fustrated at his current body for not being strong enough. He decides to summon Shenron in order to find the strongest body he can possibly get so he can steal it for his own use.
Wish: To find a very strong body and steal it for himself.
Cell	Cell has traveled back in time, coming from a timeline where he killed everyone. When he became bored of it, he used the time machine to travel back so he could do it again. This time, however, he first sets his sights on the dragon balls to gain a wish...
Wish: To force the world to compete in the ultimate Cell Games tournament.
Cooler	To say that Cooler is pissed off would be an understatment. His younger brother, Frieza, had just surpassed him in power by unlocking his Golden form. To even out the odds, Cooler decides to use the Dragon Balls to become stronger and gain the form.
Wish: To gain the Golden form to surpass his brother yet again.
Dabura	The demon king Dabura has joined with Babidi in order to summon Majin Buu. This time, however, Dabura is aware things may go south once he appears, so he sets out to find the 7 Dragon Balls so he and babidi could properly control the fat Majin.
Wish: To summon and have full control over Majin Buu.
Frieza	Frieza has recently been having dreams about a group of saiyans banding together and destroying him. Out of fear, Frieza decides to find the Dragon Balls himself and use them to wipe out all saiyans. But in doing so, his nightmare becomes a reality...
Wish: For the complete annihilation of the Saiyan Race.
Adult Gohan	Adult Gohan was training with the Elder Kai in order to become stronger when the old man comes up with an idea: to travel around and find Dragon Balls as a form of training. In reality, he just wanted to be alone and read dirty manga, but Gohan does it.
Wish: For a coupon so he and his father can eat at a restaurant.
Son Goku	Gohan's birthday is soon approaching, and Goku decides to go out and find the 7 Dragon Balls so he can wish up the ultimate gift for his son. However, Frieza wants the Dragon Balls for himself to gain complete immortality and invincibility.
Wish: To find the ultimate gift for Gohan's Birthday.
Son Goten	Both Goten and Trunks have always wanted their own pet after playing with Hercules pet dog, but both Bulma and Chi-Chi doubt they are ready all of the tough responsibilities. So they go out to find Dragon Balls to give them the ultimate pet.
Wish: To own a pet Dragon.
Gotenks	Goten and Trunks were hanging out one day during a very lazy monday when one of them comes up with an idea for a game: they fuse into Gotenks, then try and see if they can find all 7 Dragon Balls before the fusion wears off. The two fuse and go.
Wish: To fight the strongest guy to ever live absolutley ever.
Great Saiyaman	Gohan and Videl where patrolling as the Great Seiyamen when they come across Pilaf and his crew announcing that they are looking for the Dragon Balls to take over the world, and no one can stop them. The two head out to foil his plans.
Wish: To have super high-tech armor suits for justice.
Hercule Satan	Hercule is tired of lying about his strength, knowing that one day someone will find a way to call his bluff. So Hercule decides to go look for the 7 Dragon Balls and wish for unlimited power. However, Mercenary Tao also happens to be searching too...
Wish: To be the real strongest man on the planet.

• There are 97 characters in the game as of now.
• There are plenty of characters who were scrapped from the game, due to time or just being unnecessary.
  • Bulma, Korin, Cabba, Caulifla, Kale, Eis Shenron, King Kai, Burter, and Guldo were very close to being added but due to time they had to be scrapped.
  • Vegeta Jr, the Bear Theif, Kami, Mr. Popo, Shu & Mai, and Sourman were all also planned at one point, but were dropped for being unecessary.
  • Playable giant characters were also planned, like the Great Ape, Giant Janemba, the Pilaf Mecha, and Hirudegarn. However, they were scrapped because the developers didn't know how to incorperate them.
  • Guest characters like Luffy from One Piece or Jotaro from Jojo's Bizzare Adventure were also considered but ultimatley scrapped for time.
