Prof. Gerald Robotnik is the grandfather of Maria Robotnik and Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik. He is the creator of the "Bio-lizerd" a failed experiment, and Shadow the Hedgehog. The FBI then found out about "Project Shadow" and in fear of it for being used in a bad purpose, wanted to destroy it. His goal with Shadow was to be a friend towards Maria and to help all the people down at Earth. While the FBI was attacking, Gerald,Maria and Shadow ran away to an escape pod room. They arrested Gerald, and put him in an underwater prison on a place called Prison Island. It is said to be "un-escapable." Once he found out, that his granddaughter was killed, he got enraged, and commanded Shadow to take revenge on all of mankind.
