Donkey Kong also has his own alternate costume with boxing gloves, inspired from Punch-Out!!. He has Funky Kong as his Echo Fighter.
According to his history, Donkey Kong began as an antagonist of Mario where he kidnaps Pauline in Mario vs. Donkey Kong. He climbed tall buiding until he reached to the top, guarded his captive and threw barrels to Mario with other various obstacles. Donkey Kong also had a few titles where he became captive of Mario and needed to be rescued by Donkey Kong Jr. Later, Donkey Kong became very popular in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System games such as the famous titular Donkey Kong Country trilogy, where him, Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong (with the help of Kiddy Kong) capture the stolen bunch of bananas taken from King K. Rool and the Kremlings, his minions, and also save the Kong's island. Later on, as the series progressed, new characters became involved in other games and became popular by today standards such as Cranky Kong and Funky Kong. Donkey Kong, sometimes with the other Kongs, also participated in a variety of Mario spin-off games such as go-kart games, party games and even sports games.
Unlike other Smash titles, Donkey Kong now is voiced by Takashi Nagasako, the main voice actor from his recent Donkey Kong games, instead of realistic gorilla voices. Takashi also voices Ganondorf in this game.
