Display C/Devkit

This is the official guide for any third party looking to develop hardware or software for, or port existing software to, the Display C console.

Consider your options

With careful consideration of the features Display C offers your game, it will feel more natural on the console. Here are some of the possibilities.

• You can create games that are playable anywhere in the world, and on any HDMI screen.
• Interfacing with the modular SixPak controller, you can create Paks with unique control and feedback schemes to suit your game. You can bundle recommended Paks with your games.
• Some players will have access to extended reality through the Spec headset. You can craft extended reality experiences through this and related features.

Though making good use of these features isn't a necessity, it will improve the game feel and versatility of software available on Display C.

Designing new Paks

To ensure that your Pak works with the SixPak controller, it should abide by the following design considerations.

• Paks can take up one, two, or three adjacent slots. You should use the smallest reasonable size. If the smallest size would be less comfortable or useful for some people, consider producing your Pak in various sizes.
• It's okay to create a new Pak with the same functionality as an existing one. The same controls can have a variety of physical properties and layouts. The details of the designs that AM Studios has chosen might not work best for every game. You can also add new features to existing controls, but you should use consistent language to refer to preexisting named inputs.
• Paks can extend outside of their slots, which is recommended for features such as grips. However, your Pak should not take up any other space that could be occupied by a relatively flat Pak. Consider solutions such as collapsing and rotation mechanisms to prevent Paks from physically overlapping.
• If your Pak provides a feature other than an input method, it should include an iconographic symbol on the front.
