Disney Infinity: Magical Return

Publisher(s) Disney
Platform(s) PS4, XBox One, PC, Nintendo Switch

Announced on March 3, 2022, Disney Infinity: Magical Return is a series reboot of Disney Interactive Studios' Toys to Life game series, Disney Infinity. The game hosts new features such as improved combat, character customization and a new crossover campaign reminiscent of Toy Box Takeover from 3.0.

Gameplay[]

As a series reboot, Disney Infinity: Magical Return retains most of the gameplay elements from the original Disney Infinity trilogy, such as combat, level creation and a variety of playsets with different gameplay styles.

Gameplay Tweaks[]

To enhance the gameplay, several elements have been tweaked:

  • Every character from the pre-3.0 games has been extensively reworked in terms of movesets to feature abilities like timing-sensitive combos, special moves, grapples and flight. All of the cut characters from previous games like Emperor Zurg, Ferb, CLU, Jafar and Peter Pan are also fully playable.
    • Cars characters can now switch between the "driving" mode found in previous games and a more standardized gameplay mode that allows them to jump, attack, move around and use items like other playable characters. However, they cannot drive vehicles.
    • The maximum level cap has been boosted from 20 to 30. This will grant each character enough points to obtain every upgrade, and upgrading them to their maximum level grants them a platinum statue in the Hall of Heroes.
    • Some characters wield melee weapons differently from others. If using a sword, Captain America would wield it in conjunction with his shield akin to a knight, while Randall, Stitch and General Grievous would wield multiple swords in each arm.
  • Scrapped features from 1.0 such as pedal bikes, wall-jumping and size-changing goo have been brought back to function with the newer content.
  • Characters can now be used in any Play Set without restrictions, though some sets require in-game conditions be met first.
    • Special items are available to allow characters to perform certain in-game tasks if they lack the inherent abilities.
    • If a character has Flight in a set/toy box that doesn't permit it, it will be swapped out for a Super Jump.
  • The toy pad has been updated to feature four character slots for 4-player split-screen. Once a figurine has been registered into the game, it will be added to the game's options permanently so players can access them without needing to tap them in again.
  • Every character has at least one alternate costume and various alternate palettes that can be unlocked in-game.
  • In races, AI opponents are no longer restricted to Cars characters, and now function similarly to the Toy Box Speedway in that they can use any character/vehicle combination. They can also be restricted to specific characters and vehicles.
    • Each character is now classified as a different weight class: each weight affects the vehicle's stats differently (i.e. heavier characters are faster while lighter characters have better handling). A detailed list can be found at Disney Infinity: Magical Return/Character Attributes.

Starter Pack[]

The starter pack consists of 3 character figurines (Mickey Mouse, Captain America and Rey), 4 Play Sets (Mickey Mouse & Friends, Avengers, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the Story Mode) and 3 power discs (Mickey Mouse's car, Captain America's motorbike and Rey's landspeeder).

Story Mode[]

After the events of 3.0's Toy Box Takeover, the heroes returned to their home dimensions. But suddenly, The Void has been mysteriously appearing all over various worlds, gathering up villains for revenge. Now, all the heroes must team up once again if they want to have any hope of saving the multiverse.
