Gameplay[]
Demon Hunter Goku X Fire Emblem: Arena of Forces is a crossover 3D weapon-based fighting game that puts the focus on tag team mechanics and in which players control characters with different fighting styles and special attacks, engaging in one-on-one combat to deplete their opponent's life gauge. The game is in 3D, which means the game is in motion capture. Each of the battle modes has three: Solo VS, Double VS and a 8-person platform fighting mode, Free For All. In one of the three main VS modes, the Double VS, players battle in 2-vs-2 matches: they control one of the two selected characters at a time, and are able to switch between them on command. In addition to the standard fighting game meter that is expended to perform special and EX moves, the game features a specific another resource: Assist Tempo (アシストテンポ Ashisuto Tenpo ). If they have enough, players can also have the second character use assist attacks to extend combos, keep the opponent away, or alternatively use all meter on "Unpolished Barricade (磨かれていないバリケード Migaka Rete Inai Barikēdo )" to escape from dangerous situations. Similar to Marvel vs. Capcom, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle and Dragon Ball FighterZ, even if one character on the team loses all of their health, the match continues until both are down. The game introduced a new super attack system called “Unlimited Strike (無制限攻撃 Museigen Kōgeki )”, “Unlimited Storm (無制限嵐 Museigen Arashi )”, “Unlimited Burst (無制限爆発 Museigen Bakuhatsu )”, “Dual Unlimited Annihilation (二元的無制限消滅 Nigen-Teki Museigen Shōmetsu )” and “Unlimited Meter (無制限計器 Museigen Keiki )”. Unlimited Strike is a level 1 super move where the fighter’s health bar glows red and gives the fighter a red aura, it can be used also when Unlimited Strike was activated. Unlimited Storm is a level 2 super move where the fighter’s health bar glows blue and gives the fighter a blue aura, it can be used also when Unlimited Storm was activated. Unlimited Burst is a level 3 and max super move where the characters who’s their unlimited meter was in full power. If used, it is a powerful attack with power crushing properties that can only be used when a fighter’s unlimited meter was in full power, and similar to Dragon Ball FighterZ, it can be reused per round. Unlimited Burst were the only moves that let a character expend their power respectively. Some characters has more than one unlimited burst. Similar to Tekken 7 but when the unlimited meter was in max power, it activates when a player’s unlimited meter was in level 3 and in full power, giving the fighter's health bar a red and blue glow, the fighter a red and blue aura and increasing the damage output of their moves. Dual Ultimate Annihilation is a dual ultimate attack where each two fighters has their Unlimited Meter in full power at the same time, it can be activated in the same time as it creates heavy damage to their opponents. Another feature is the "Dramatic Sequence", special cutscenes that appear at the start and the end of a fight depending on the characters involved and stage, related to events from the Dragon Ball and Fire Emblem series.
In specific additions to the story mode, MaryLucario makes a statement that Demon Hunter Goku X Fire Emblem: Arena of Forces aims to provide a more cinematic fighting experience, with a focus on stage destructions and transitions, a more accurate quick-time events and specific characters' reactions to them. It also features quick-time event, a method of context-sensitive gameplay in which the player performs actions on the control device shortly after the appearance of an on-screen instruction/prompt. It allows for limited control of the game character during cut scenes or cinematic sequences in the game. Performing the wrong prompt, mistiming the action, or not performing any action at all results in the character's failure at their task, resulting in a death/failure animation and triggers an immediate game over or losing their lives with some games providing a lesser but significant penalty of sorts instead. The hardest quick-time event that was occurred was in Chapter 15 where Goku and Ike had to fight together against Jerimoth, the fell god. Furthermore, all character models and voice acting are entirely new, rather than recycled content from previous entries.
