Cheep Cheeps (also formatted as Cheep-Cheeps) are fish creatures that appear as common underwater enemies in the Mario series. They debut in Super Mario Bros., where they come in two varieties; red and green, with the latter swimming slower than the latter. They will harm Mario on contact, but they can be defeated with fireballs from Fire Mario. In some levels, Cheep Cheeps can also leap from the water and fly through the air to attack Mario. In these instances, they can be jumped on to be defeated.
In subsequent games, standard Cheep Cheeps are colored red, and the green coloration is given to a different variant, the Deep Cheep.
