Changes from Smash 4
Like every other veteran, Charizard now appears much more vibrant and his appearance is more based off its appearance in its games with a small realistic touch.
Charizard is faster in the air
Charizard now has 4 strong “jumps”.
Tilt attacks except down tilt have decreased damage but come out faster. Down tilt is 1% stronger and it KOs at higher percents.
Grabs and Throws
Default Side Special changed to Heat Wave. Flare Blitz is an alternate.
|Neutral Special||Flamethrower||2% (clean), 1% (late)||Charizard spits repeated flames that gradually weaken if the attack is held, similar to Bowser's Fire Breath.|
|Alternate 1||Fire Fang||2% (flames), 8% (finish)||A short-range fire-breathing attack that hits quickly. Releasing the button finishes the move with a small explosion.|
|Alternate 2||Flame Burst||9% (clean), 7% (late)||Similar to Bowser’s Fire Shot but moves faster, smaller and doesn’t have as much start up lag.|
|Side Special||Heat Wave||15%/4% (hit 1/tip), 13%/3% (hit 2/tip), 11%/2% (hit 3/tip), 9%/1% (hit 4/tip)||Charizard shoots a flurry of flames with its wings. Deals 25% if all hits connect. Slow start-up, but has a strong horizontal knockback than can easily gimp characters' recoveries. Propels Charizard a bit backwards when used in midair.|
|Alternate 1||Flare Blitz||4% (collision), 15% (explosion)||Charizard does a very powerful dashing tackle that causes recoil damage at the beginning of the move and again on contact. Has heavy armor (14%)|
|Alternate 2||Dragon Rush||1.2% (per hit)||Charizard is now surrounded in a purple aura while performing Dragon Rush. Does multiple hits with less power overall, but Charizard takes no recoil damage and will not stop moving if it hits an opponent.|
|Up Special||Fly||5% (hit 1), 2% (loop hits), 4% (last hit)||Charizard rises upward while performing a corkscrew. The final hit has great knockback. Has super armor.|
|Alternate 1||Fire Spin||8% (hit 1), 3% (loop hits), 4% (last hit)||A more powerful version of Fly in which Charizard is surrounded in fire. Has less range, however.|
|Alternate 2||Wing Attack||8%||Sacrifices multi-hits and damage for diagonal movement. Charizard cuts upwards with one wing doing damage. Has slightly more range than Fly.|
|Down Special||Rock Smash||14% (headbutt), 3% (fragments)||Charizard pulls out a giant rock and headbutts it, breaking it into pieces. Has super armor.|
|Alternate 1||Overheat||4% (clean), 2% (late)||Works similar to Flamethrower but Charizard exerts a burning flame in all directions. Noticeable lag but slightly stronger than Flamethrower.|
|Alternate 2||Dragon Dance||1.4x (9% min)||A counter. Charizard hops twice then counter attacks|
|Final Smash||Mega Charizard X||2% (charge loop), 10% (charge last), 5% (blast collision), 1% (blast loop), 5% (blast last)||charizard transforms into its powerful Mega Evolution from Pokémon X. Similar to Super Dragon, Charizard consistently hovers around the stage. It has two attacks: a physical one where it spins in any given direction, and a projectile, allowing Charizard to shoot Fire Blasts at opponents.|
