Chao Garden Crusade is a virtual pet simulation game developed by SEGA HARDlight and published by Sega for iOS and Android. A vast expansion of the original Chao Garden minigames from the Sonic Adventure series, the player overlooks their own Chao Garden, in which they can expand and decorate to their own will, take care of their own Chao, in which they can hatch, feed, power up, breed, and take them to various minigames and missions, and explore the world outside their Garden, in which they can meet Sonic and his friends, buy items, find secrets, and visit other people's Chao Gardens.

Gameplay

To obtain a Chao, the player must have their egg, either through buying Egg Capsules with Red Star Rings, earning them from quests and events, or breeding already existing Chao. The player is given three Classic eggs by Cream at the start. An egg takes from 1 to 10 minutes to hatch.

Chao are raised by improving their stats, Stamina, Speed, Power, Swim, Flight, Intelligence, and Luck, as well as keeping their happiness high. The stats and happiness influence how well the Chao does on minigames and missions. Stats are graded from E- to S+. Happiness is graded with the Chao's Blue Heart (bluer = happier, darker = sadder).

Stats can be raised by feeding the Chao food or Chaos Drives, allowing them to absorb stats of animals collected, or training them at the Chao Gym. It takes 10 stats to go from E- to E for each stat and the interval multiples by 2 for each grade. Happiness is raised by the player responding to their needs, such as the need for food and need for toys. Ignoring their needs will lower their happiness.

The Chao's alignment can be influenced by feeding the Chao Hero or Dark fruit. The Chao's potential alignment can be seen by how light or dark their Pink Heart is.

After 14 days, the child Chao forms a concoon, which takes 3-5 days to complete. The color of the Chao's adult form is determined by their child form's color, stats, skills, and alignment.

After 30 days, the adult Chao reaches the end of their life. If their happiness was mostly high throughout their life, they'll form a pink concoon and reincarnate back into a child, keeping all of their previous stats and skills. If their happiness was mostly low throughout their life, they'll form a gray concoon and die off, never to be seen again.

Helpers

Helpers are NPCs that appear at your Garden and assist you at times.

Omochao	Always	The tutorial guide. He appears alongside GUI and guides the players step-by-step in instructions on how to manage their Chao Garden and Chao, and partake in minigames and missions.
Cream the Rabbit	Always	Located at the center right of Chao Garden and always has Cheese by her side. She offers tips and advice based on how well the Garden and Chao are doing. She is the player's friend automatically and owns an automated Chao Garden of her own, which the player can visit.
Tikal the Echidna	When new mission is given	She appears at the entrance of Garden to announce a new mission to the player and ask if they can partake in it now or later. She also appears if the "Tikal's Miracle" is bought.
Chaos	Daily, once	Hosts the daily "Wheel of Luckiness", "To-Did Rewards", and other (event-specific) gift-giving endeavors

Events

These events happen annually. These are the new content and prizes they'll often give, but there'll be some variation. Special events (such as promotion of new Sonic game) do not appear:

• New Year, New Chao (January 1 - 5): Snow in temeperate zones, fireworks in night sky, special "Wheel of Luckiness" offering 2-3 Chaotic/Gaia Eggs as New Year's gift.
• Lunar, Lanterns, and Luck (January 20 - February 5): Chinese New Year decorations and clothing are availible for limited time. Silver and Blaze wear Chinese New Year costumes from Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, and each offer an exlcusive mission for the Panda-colored Chao.
• Love is in the Air (February 7 - 25): Hearts decorate the outside. Valentine's Day decorations and clothing are availible for limited time. Sonic wears a tuxedo and Amy wears a white dress. Amy offers exclusive missions, which involve her trying to snag Sonic for a date.
• Lore of the Leprechaun (March 9 - March 20): St. Patricks Day decorations and clothing are availible for limited time. Sonic, hearing of a rumor of the Leprechaun Chao, offers an exclusive mission for finding the Leprechuan Chao and its pot of rings.
• April Fools' Day (April 1): April Fools Egg Capsule can only be bought on this day, as well as other crazy shenanigans ensue.
• The Equinox Egg Hunt (April 3 - 28): Eggs are scattered over by the mysterious Easter Pocky! There are 100 different eggs to find, which can be redeemed with missions by Sonic and friends into many rewards. Easter Egg Capsule, decorations, and clothing availible for limited time.
• Summer Sunshine (June 1 - July 1):

• It's Holiday Time! (December 1 - December 31): Snow in temperate zones, and Christmas decorations everywhere. NPCs wear holiday garb. "Wheel of Luckiness" is replaced with the Advent Calendar, which offers an exclusive gift every day of December. Christmas decorations and clothing only availible for limited time.
