The Carrington Institute is a retired stage on Super Smash Stadium. It debuted towards the end of Season 20 and is the 72nd stage to debut overall. It saw 155 playings in the just-over-16 years it was active.
Stage overview[]
The stage took place in an airplane hangar, with an airplane in the background acting as a soft platform by way of its top and a wing. The side kill zones were walk-offs, and the bottom kill zone was blocked.
Every now and then, enemy agents from DataDyne, Inc. stormed the room. You would get an extra $100 cash for every one you killed, up to $1,900. Why only nineteen agents attacked (and not an even 20) is unclear. Needless to say, this led to many unintentional 9-11 jokes from Season 30 on.
Changes[]
- The cash bonus did not appear until October 30, 1997.
- The stage originally had a "white plastic" appearance similar to that of a hospital. On November 30, 1998, it was changed to the "dull, dirty metal/concrete" appearance one might expect of an aircraft hangar.
Why it was retired[]
The aforementioned "20th hijacker" jokes, combined with the enemy agents being jank (they could kill at 60%!) and increasing rights issues with Microsoft/Rare, who supposedly disliked the franchise (despite making a new Perfect Dark for Xbox 360 in 2010).
In its own universe[]
The Carrington Institute is where Joanna Dark is headquartered in the Perfect Dark games.
