Burners are a variant of Bill Blaster that spew flames rather than Bullet Bills. They debuted in Super Mario Bros. 3 and are typically found on airship levels. New Super Mario Bros. DS, a game which lacked airships, established that they can appear in castle levels, too.
In SMB3, Burners that spewed horizontal flames were indistinguishable from Bullet Bill cannons, while Burners with vertical flames looked like tin cans. They've had a distinctive appearance since NSMBDS. In the Super Mario Galaxy games, they were called "Fire Pressures" and had a similar appearance to FLUDD. In Super Mario 3D Land, they spewed out blue flames.
Not to be confused with the flame-spewing balls seen in Super Mario 64 or the flat-top grill like burning platforms seen in Corona Mountain in Super Mario Sunshine.
Fanon appearances[]
- The Burner Flower, which presumably gives Mario a Burner power, exists on this wiki. No games currently use it.
St. Clair Publications[]
- In Super Smash Stadium, Burners appear on Doomship Fields along with all other airship hazards. Obviously, they burn to touch when they're spewing out flames.
- In Koopa Troopa, Burners are a weapon you can obtain.
- In Mario Kart: Ancient Circuit, DS Bowser's Castle and DS Airship Fortress, which had Burners in their original appearances, return with Burners intact. However, the portion of Bowser's Castle that had Burners was changed to be anti-gravity, so they don't attack in the same way.
