Boos, originally Boo Diddlies, are a species of ghost that mostly Bowser control. They chase after the characters in the Super Mario series when their backs are turned. They are ruled by King Boo. Boos are usually white, by are sometimes pink which are ruled by McBoo.
Boos also appear as items in the Mario Kart series. In those games, Boo makes the player invisible and steals an item for them from nearby opponents. In Mario Kart Arcade GP, however, Boo will lock itself onto an opponent, not only slowing them down but making steering more difficult too.

Concept and design
A Boo first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3. Takashi Tezuka, who was the co-designer of the game of the game came up with an idea about the creation of Boo, which somewhat resembled to an incident of Tezuka's wife. Tezuka stated that his wife is quiet and shy, but she one day erupted in a fit of rage, maddened by the fact that Tezuka came home late from work on several stints.
Boo appears as an unlockable character in Mario's Superstar Golf. Players must beat the Championship Mode on Easy difficulty with any character to unlock him.
In Mario Guitar World, It has been confirmed that Boo will be the 4th Boss in Story Mode on Pro. If he his beaten, Boo will be unlocked as well as other features.
An unlockable character unlocked by beating story on easy. His minigame is Super Sneaky Swipe.
Boo appears as one of ten subs. He has all balanced stats and has no special skills at all. He is only used when a player on the Luigi Sidekicks team is injured.
Boo appears as a light character in Koopa Kart.

Some Boos appear in Super Smash Bros. Endgame as enemies in Smash Rush and Story Mode. King Boo is one of the bosses in the Story Mode where he is secretly spying on Luigi during his return to his mansion. Kirby also dresses up as a Boo to scare Luigi and later joins him. The two best King Boo and then sucks him up into the Poltergust 6000. Shadow Boos are the official names given to the puppet Boos in Chapter 10 and 12.
Boo appears in Mario Hoops 3-On-3 Switch (mainly known as Mario Hoops 3-On-3 Deluxe) as a playable character. He is a Tricky character type and his special move is Possessed Dunk. He is a starter character. His default partner is King Boo. His team name is the Boo Thrillers.
Boo is a playable character in Mario Super Sluggers HD, a remake of Mario Super Sluggers. He has eight palette swaps.
Koopa Kart series
Koopa Kart 64
The Boo makes its Koopa Kart series debut in Koopa Kart 64, where it can be obtained from 4th to 9th place. When used, the Boo will steal the best item in reach and give it to the user while also providing total invisibility and invincibility for a short period of time.
Koopa Kart Advance
The Boo returns in Koopa Kart Advance, serving the same role as in Koopa Kart 64. Like in the previous game, it is obtainable from 4th to 9th place. In addition to stealing items, it will also steal Coins from another racer.
Koopa Kart: Double Trouble!!
In Koopa Kart: Double Trouble!!, the Boo is King Boo and Petey Piranha's Special Item and is obtainable from 5th to 10th place. While it no longer steals Coins, it gives the player a speed and off-road advantage, and it slows down the leading racer.
Koopa Kart DS
The Boo's next Koopa Kart appearance is in Koopa Kart DS. Its overall behavior is much the same as the previous game, though it no longer slows down the leading racer, and it only steals the nearest racer's item. The range for this item ranges from 5th to 10th place.
Koopa Kart Wii
The Boo returns in Koopa Kart Wii, acting the same as it did in Koopa Kart DS. This time, however, it allows the player to drive through obstacles, which provides risk and reward. Due to the addition of 16 player racing per track, it can be obtained from 7th to 13th place.
Koopa Kart Tour
After its absence from Koopa Kart 7 or Koopa Kart 8, the Boo returns in Koopa Kart Tour as King Boo's Special Item, serving the same purpose as in Koopa Kart Wii. As in Koopa Kart: Double Trouble!! and Koopa Kart DS, the item is obtainable from 5th to 10th place.
